Building Muscle Vs Building Strength (BOTH)

Ready to learn the difference between training to build muscle vs training to build strength? Skellybug: just restarted the gym program after completing it once. I got to the first weeks leg day and after almost committing suicide by legs I wondered to myself, -why didn't this feel so hard the first time? - and then it hit me; it was just as hard the first time its just that I had completely blocked it out of my memory like the time my priest got a little too handsy. I did this bc the first time I did this particular workout afterwards I tried to walk into a target, after 3 steps from my car I crumpled into a ball on the asphalt as my legs cramped to a point I didn't realize was possible. Needless to say I dragged myself back to my car and sat there sitting in pain for 45 minutes waiting for my legs to stop hurting before braving the walk once again.
all in all, an amazing program, and I'm not joking I recommend it to every person that asks. You'll build muscle and relive past traumas that are only accessed by putting yourself in life threatening situations.

For many years as an intermediate lifter of 3 consistent years now, when you said pick a side. You are right. I thought powerbuilding will help but the thing is, I want muscle hypertrophy and want to train in a hypertrophy-focused program because I know it'll promote better growth (With rest and right nutrition of course) than a strength or powerbuilding program. I love lifting heavy, including the squats, and I've gotten stronger now (About 400 + lbs of squat, 270lb bench, and 450lb deadlift) but I'm not happy because I'm training in the wrong program(s) and not the right one that's gonna help me reach the goals that I want. Sure, I would love to squat 400lbs for reps and bench 315lbs for reps but that'll come with strength as a by-product/side effect.
That said, thank you for this informative video!

I think this only works for steroid users. As a natural I can never expect to grow by chasing the pump nor I-d expect my chest to grow by benching 225 for 8 for the next 5 years. However when it comes to isolations I do believe going to failure is the best metric to aim for regardless of how strong you get. Take this for an example of you can curl the 50kg on the cable machine for 3x15 and it-s getting better and better week by week eventually you --master- why not aim for the whole stack -safely-? And I feel like you should start increasing the weight once you hit the 12-15 + zone. I think what Ryan is trying convey is regarding compound lifts especially due to the risk to reward injury.

I do an up hill sprint fallowed by Weighted squats until I can-t stand up or walk and on my chest day i do Weighted dips and push-ups wide, mid, sometimes Diamonds etc. should I stop doing everything Intense and my muscles will get bigger? Maybe faster? It-s all been an experiment for what I-ve been doing I feel good and I-m getting pretty swoll I don-t think I-ve reached a peak yet it feels and looks like i can keep going. I haven-t used anything like test-boost or any steroids (not judging anybody out there) but I just added L-Leucine I-ll put in my greens and already keep a little crearine in my system. Meat vegetables and a pasta here and there like Lasagna or chicken lo-mein.

Mr Humiston, I just want to say that, You Sir are a long awaited and sought after Truth Bearer in the realm of physical training. I've been attempting for many years to get folks to understand what you explain so effortlessly. I'm about to start working out again, getting too close to 50 so I want to chase my goal one more time. I'm certain that with your program and wisdom I'll achieve it this time around.
Thank you Sir, for being bold enough to speak the plain Truth, if they don't get it they're probably still sword fighting with that dog, those that get it will -Get After It! -

I-m a pretty physically damaged 66 year old guy. But I-ve been doing as much work as I-m physically able based on your philosophies and video regimens. I-m down over 40 lbs in less than 9 months and getting some muscle tone and strength and size back. Intermittent fasting and hypertrophic focus has made a huge difference. Just too much titanium rods and screws and shit to get better and faster. I see Alan Ritchson aka. Jack Reacher, uses the same techniques as you. Thanks Ryan. You inspire me to push till I literally puke my guts out in the planet fitness shitter sometimes.

I work out in my storage building behind my house not an ideal set up but I prefer to work out alone. I have free weights, an adjustable bench, a cable machine that has a chest press, preacher curl and the top and bottom pulleys with a weight stack. I cannot do pullups and am limited on heavy weights especially with a bench press due to a shoulder impingement. So I am never sure how well I can adapt to workout plans that are offered.

I have been watching your videos for the last six months and I am impressed. I started back lifting weights in September the -Ryan Humiston- way and this is the best consistent advice I have seen on the whole concept of weight lifting from nutrition, attitude, rest intervals and the like. My wife has been noticing the major changes. I turned 65 in November and it feels good.

There's no reason not to at least occasionally change your mode of lifting from hypertrophy to strength and back, just not at the same time. Give one mode a go for a training block, then switch up to the other mode for a block or two. Bigger muscles have a greater potential to get stronger, so bodybuilding has it's place even in a power centric focus.

I have been checking your video's for a while. They are short, informative and effective. Maybe i have soms tips how you can get more likes. Introduce your girlfriend. Show up every week with a new car. Make videos about your car. Show us your breakfast. Tell more about your self. Make a t shirt line. Then you would really stand out from the rest.
