Target your SERRATUS ANTERIOR (Stop Ignoring this Muscle) Redefining Strength

Target your SERRATUS ANTERIOR (Stop Ignoring this Muscle) All too often when we are focused on improving our shoulder health to prevent aches and pains, we focus on strengthening our rotator cuff. We may also do some foam rolling or release for our pecs and lats as well knowing they can inhibit proper shoulder mobility. But we can-t only focus directly on our shoulders if we have shoulder and even neck pain- We have to realize that our shoulder health is dramatically impacted by both our spinal and scapular mobility and stability as well. And one muscle in particular is often overlooked when we are suffering from neck and shoulder pain - a muscle that can impact our scapular stability and even be impacted by our thoracic mobility- This muscle is the Serratus Anterior! Here are 3 moves to help you strengthen this muscle as well as a bonus exercise to improve your thoracic extension

None of what you did targets it directly. And your rolling in the end is resting on your teres and lat.
For starts stand tall and put your arms up. One of the most basic essential stretches which targets the serratus. Then in that position with arms stretched overhead we bend to one send and another.
Not a single chest opening exercise which is essential cause it will pull on the serratus and make it feel like it is not stretched even when it is.
I mean come one.

I recently purchased an ab wheel with the intent of working out my core. I weight train my back with both a lat pull down machine and dumbbell/barbell regularly. I was shocked at how many -new- muscles were sore after doing 3 sets x 10 reps of the ab wheel. So, there-s definitely muscles being neglected there. Thank you for sharing!

i get really confused about how much rotational strength is completely ignored in modern fitness, but then again most of it is for the way your body looks these days. our bodies natural movements are all dependent on rotational strength. we dont walk around looking like stiff pieces of lumber lol. or at least we arent supposed to

I love your recommendations in this video. I am recovering from bilateral adhesive capsulitis, I am pretty advanced in my recovery but some things I definitely cannot do like put even half my body weight on my shoulders ie for plank, push-up etc. I need to be doing some of this work for shoulder and neck pain, thank you!

I was really interested in this as I am addressing shoulder issues at the moment. I'm working on serratus anterior activation and strengthening and yo have given me alternatives and additions to work on - Thank you. Your your tube films are fabulous and always a go-to if I need some inspiration.

Thanks, Cori! I've continued to use your recommendations for my shoulder issues and it's slowly but surely improving. My chiropractor has even commented on the improvement. Appreciate your knowledge and your relentless work to share it with us. Have an awesome holiday season! :)

Its actually very easy to train this muscle group. Just do dumbbell pullovers or cable pullovers. In the 80s and 90s there were specialized machines for this in the gyms but they have somehow gone out of fashion but seem to be coming back slowly.

I use a golf ball on my upper back as I stand against the wall. I move around to find that spot and then just move around the target. This area in the video is a definite spot I hit as well. I'm going to do the foam roller exercise as well. Thank you.

Thank you for this video! I've had a right shoulder tightness that I haven't been able to resolve, and these exercises seem to have done the trick! It's still there, but much looser and comfortable than before!
