The problem with water on a plane is how its stored and used. The water that comes to your house isnt typically stored anywhere. Its treated and then pumped to where its being used, and its being used constantly. It stays under pressure in a pipe the whole time. On a plane, water is stored in a tank where it just sits stagnant until its required. With that, larger aircraft hold a couple hundred gallons and its almost never used. They will do multiple flights with the same tank of water. That doesnt seem too bad, but when you realize than when it comes to the maintenance on an aircraft, the water system is pretty low on the list of things that need an in depth look at.
Just drink the bottled water man. Its free.

I worked ramp for roughly 15 years and the methods for refilling water tanks was pretty straight forward. The occasional rusty end of a hose pipe, notwithstanding, and those were usually replaced with a clean one once reported.
I've seen water come straight out of a hose connected to the jet bridge or from a water cart designed to connect to the aircraft for refilling. There are regulations about cleaning these carts and the aircraft tanks to keep bacteria from growing within. I have never seen the carts being cleaned myself but I'm sure the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) mechanics had that among their duties.
By US law, aircraft water tanks are cleaned and disinfected four times a year and conduct monthly tests. This is to keep coliform or E. coli out of tanks. Still, I wouldn't trust the water for drinking. Washing hands with soap should be fine.

It's supposedly safe to drink potable water on a plane, at least on our aircraft (British, orange. Samples are regularly taken for analysis. But considering we're technically authorised to uplift water in places like Egypt, then I'd stay well away from it. Treat yourself to a bottle of Highland Spring. The crew only drink it in hot drinks if it's been boiled first. Also don't forget different aircraft do different routes each day. So don't assume that because you're on a domestic route from London - Belfast, that the water in the tanks was from either there. It could have been to Egypt the day before. Fantastic videos as always Noel. I hope to have you as a passenger on my plane one day.

Water on board is actually safe to consume. Water tanks are sanitized on regular basis. If you drink coffee or tea on board, it is usually made with the on board water. Had the pleasure to work for the airlines for a year and it gave me an appreciation for the care the airlines take to ensure we have safe and clean airplanes to travel in. Love your videos man!

I have done this before. 5 hour flight from shanghai to Singapore, break for couple hours and straight up 19 hours in Premium Economy from Singapore to NYC. Worst flight experience ever. I am that kind of person who cannot fall asleep on any plane, so yes, more than 30 hour awake on plane. physical and mental meltdown

I did LAX>SIN>BKK and back around 2012 when Singapore still was doing the LAX>SIN route with an A340-500. It was 100% business class and maybe a 30% load, if that. It was luxurious and the service was great - but of the 16-18 hours of it, I slept 10-12 thanks to Ambien! (I have since sworn that stuff off forever.

Two amazing things here:
1. That a commercial aircraft can fly for over 18 hours without stopping
2. That Noel would want to do that, and he enjoys it. To me, it would feel like I was facing a prison sentence

Great video Noel. I love Singapore Airlines. Great service and food. Sometimes a bit pricy compared to other airlines. One time I gave up an economy aisle seat so an older couple could sit together. The next flight I booked with them they gave me a free upgrade to business class

Actually its not bad at all, especially when you travel business. Ive taken 18hr flight from Dubai to Texas business class on Emirates. Not difficult. Excellent entertainment, the food is good. Singapore air and Emirates, very similar.

For from 10- 18 hours long flight I usual take business class, otherwise I will be dead on arrival but on 5-7 hours flight I usually take premium economy is already enough

You are right, the potable water supply is not sanitary and is rarely cleaned out on most planes, since nowadays its only needed for boiled coffee and toilet water.

I did this but in premium economy on Singapore Airlines. Not fun, I would really recommend Business and above if you actually wanna get some sleep.

According to a plane mechanic I know, unless they want to do multiple hours of labor, the water tank they use ain't getting cleaned.
