GMC Sierra ABS Pump Motor Failure - Part I

GMC Sierra ABS Pump Motor Failure - Part I Remember when all you had to do was depress the brake pedal. hydraulic pressure pushed pads/shoes into the disk or drum and the vehicle stopped
Now you have to have 20 extra things happen BEFORE your vehicle is allowed to stop. any one of which could fail and possibly cause a catastrophic collision.
And people wonder why I love my no-computer having ancient pickup truck.

can't lie I just refuse to do auto repairs anymore even on my own vehicle. at one time I loved working on cars, but now I just take it to a shop and let poor guys like Eric O deal with it. even quit changing my own oil because you can have it done nearly as cheap as doing it yourself. if ever a job was tip worthy modern day mechanic should be on the list. funny the person who gives you a bad haircut or carries a plate of food to your table gets a tip but the guys who repairs your vehicle only catches hell for how much they charged you for the job.

We’ve all said things that we wouldn’t want our mother to hear when working on some car or truck some college boy designed at his desk in his nice comfortable air conditioned office sipping his coffee the secretary brought him so he didn’t have to get out of his comfortable leather chair. And we’ve all wanted to get our hands on him and make him repair his design that he got an award for that’s just another piece of junk we’re having to fix.

When I have really crusty bolts, brake cleaner helps me more than penetrating oil. It's not because the brake clean penetrates and looses things inside the fastener, but because it cleans some of the crusties off so the socket fits better. Plus, I get to hear the patented SMC brake cleaner sound in my head when I do it, and that's what give me courage to pull the wrench harder.

I woulda gotten up in there with ya to help, but I’m just getting over my cold, and I don’t wanna get shot. Several times.
Feel better soon. Sorry you’re feeling like poo.
Believe it or not, that was a great video. Cross-threading is my calling card, nice job in getting those started!
Take care, get well, and thanks, Mr. O.

If these motors fail all the time, wouldn't it be wonderful if the motor could be replaced separately Not only that, if it subsequently turns out to be the pump rather than the motor, it's now out of the way and you have more space to get to the line nuts.
Most are held in place by just a couple of screws anyway.

You sir prove that there is absolutely no better training than appearance, especially when dealing with special circumstances such as the rust belt. I also live in that same environment in western Pa. plenty of salty roads. Keep up the great and honest work practices. Bob b.

My least favorite job there. all those lines being in michigan. rusty but not as rusty as your area but still crappy. and I hate the smell and especially the feel of brake fluid on my hands. worst job there is for me.

A video with it all. Using a torch on rusted parts, bolts dropping in filled drain pans, bushing rolling under the toolbox, having to work in the blind, all while feeling lousy with a cold. Brings back memories.

Such a patient and disciplined man, you are! Those connections have to come loose, and without twisting the brake lines. Amazing that you have techniques that work, and the patience to practice them!

Eric, I'm confused, perhaps you can help.
I've spent the last hour calling around to all of the local places and can't find a line wrench torque wrench. Can you post a link to the ones you use

This video demonstrates exactly why I don't DIY as much on my car as I used to. What should be simple and straightforward usually becomes awkward and frustrating. Thanks for all the great videos.

Lol. the torque wrench. When I was working on cars with dad as a youngster, I'd ask are you going to torque those. his response, didn't you hear my elbow click. truly miss those days.

I love the wit & wisdom. tt's like having a chair in the shop. I've often wished that I had caps for the brake lines I'm working on. Someone must make them.

Yes I understand, I won't even take stuff in for warranty work if it's under $100! First I don't trust them, Second I don't want someone else touching my shit!

Everyone understands what you go through fixing other people's problems. So if you made a video of your raw and uncut, everyone would still watch it.
