The Carwow Black Friday sale is now live: If you’re in the market for a BMW, you’re probably wondering which one you should choose to give you the best value for money! Well, worry no more! We’ve got our hands on almost every car across the BMW range, and we’re about to find out whether an all-new BMW 1 Series offers better value for money than any other car across the range. The 2024 1 Series starts at around 32, 000. This car has a 1. 5-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that can deliver 170hp and 280Nm through the front wheels. However, the car we have here has had almost 10, 000 worth of options added to it, so the price is similar to that of a whole host of second-hand BMWs. For example, getting an M340i from 2020 for just 37, 000 is possible. As a result, you’re getting loads more power, thanks to the 3-litre straight-six turbo that sits under the bonnet - and all this for 5, 000 less than the 1 Series! But wait, it gets better! There’s a whole host of other car types available. Looking for an SUV An X4 M40i or X5 40i cost similar. Interested in an estate You can get your hands on a 5 Series Touring. What’s more, you can even get your hands on a 7 Series or an 8 Series Gran Coupe All for the same price as a brand new 1 Series! But of course, there are still other elements to consider, such as running costs and depreciation. So is the 1 Series still the best value for money Or should you consider something a little further up the range Stick with Mat for a run-through to see for yourself! After having an E81 123D and currently an F21 M140i, i really think the F40 and this, the F70 looks like a Focus and i30 had a love child. Its just bland. Its Mini based underneath and like most, this obsession by manufacturers to put everything screen based is bonkers.
Ill stick with my F21 for now, but it does leave a dilemma of what to replace it with next year. The M340i would be on the list, but house buying takes priority. boooo to adulthood

So this is the car you actually want to buy. Who in their right mind is going to buy a BMW or similar without any options. If I’m buying a BMW or Mercedes etc I am ticking every blooming option box. Nobody wants a base spec ever so the prices are just BS since it has nothing on it.
You want all the options or at least I do.

All those safety’s like beeping when over the speed limit is just proof why America is so much better. Our new cars let you rev to red line and most of them don’t have a speed governor. Even my Chevy express 2500 work van can hit 105. Europe makes the best cars and limits them so much that they’re not worth buying

Buying a first hand car with low KM is the best choice, Always was, Just make sure to take it to inspection in a good garage and check document history with special Apps, Especially if it's a new car or an expensive one.
And a private closed garage is a must if you live in a bs region or have bad luck.

ofc you know what u gonna get, when buying used. Normal people to test drives and take a look at the car they want to buy. Just take your time and find the right car with the right extras. When ordering a new car you have to wait for months as well, so buying used is probably faster as well.

Nothing to do with Beemers, but I bought a new Touareg last year. After 6 months I was thoroughly sick of the touchscreen rubbish and utterly terrible cruise control operation. Sold it and bought a low mileage 2019 SQ7 with BUTTONS! and a CD PLAYER! I'm old school, I know.

They talk about safety first but now if you want to change Climate you need to watch where you push on that lcd panel, instead juat normal button where you feel when you pushing without watching it. It should be mandate to mehanical buttons for all that stuff.

Before even watching the full video, easy win for m340i or m4 cs if you want a sporty proper m bmw. m340i is the perfect combination of everything basically and that b58 has a lot of potential, which is actually achiavable. The m4 cs is an icon though.

Even though the m340i is the obvious winner, I really like the i8. BMW had such a brilliant idea, and more than ten years after it still looks great. I hope they improve the engine power and make interior touches in a future release.

The biggest issue with German cars is out of warranty running costs. The more tech too the more potential problems. It's a mind field and it's why German cars don't always hold their re-sale value. Another problem with German cars re-sale.

Wow wer'e in an ERA where even POS Chinese cars look better than the new German ones, Audi is still the only German that makes good looking cars but they've already started all that horrible EV interior designs so they're falling off too.

I have a slightly newer M340i with mild hybrid technology. Absolutely fantastic car. Fuel economy exceeded my expectations. Only upgrade to this car would be to the touring version like Matt said.
reply

The m4 Cs but the non Cs version. The old man in me says 8 series. The wise man says the m340i is the one. Of course I am a car guy so the m4 would win for a while then try something else

As a UX educator I think that climate control interface is murderous. Truly horrifying. Screens should be mainly for nav and music, and they should have less latency than a cheap phone.

That was a great video, I agree, we need more of these types of videos to help us spend our hard earned money in the most efficient way possible. Really really good work, well done.

One of the best comparison test I’ve seen in an age. Thanks for putting it together I’m sure it took a lot of time and effort. Would love to see other brands in the future.

Those used car prices in the UK are just absurdly low, in Greece for example and with 37K GBP translating to 44K EUR, the cheapest M340i you can get is 63K Eur

Amazing test. I learn a lot during this video. If we can get the same kind of test for MERCEDES or AUDI, it will be great. Thank you for this awesome video.

How is that 2024 5 series still using the old gear selector I would've thought it would at least be the same one as on the 3 series from 2020.
reply

Sounds really wierd but in my m140i the indicator stalk feel really satisfying, while yeah they're plastic they feel really high quality 3: 26
