New Audi SQ8 review: Has anything changed!

It was previously known as just the Audi e-tron, but Audi has rebranded its largest electric SUV to now call it the Audi Q8 e-tron! The question is, although the name has evolved, has much else changed? Well when it comes to the design It all looks pretty much the same! There are no notable differences around the back, while along the side it all pretty much mirrors the original e-tron, bar some new alloy designs. Up top it s a little different, with an all-new grille slapped across the front. But otherwise, it looks almost identical! Audi say that the headlight design has evolved, but to be honest, we think they look pretty much the same. Step inside and it s more of the same story! Bar some new trims, it s all pretty much identical to the last car. That s not necessarily a bad thing, mind. The SQ8 we have here comes equipped with super comfortable sports seats, and you ll find soft touch, high quality materials throughout the entire cabin. Annoyingly though, a lot of functions are controlled through a touch screen, so they re hard to work while driving. There are three editions of the Q8 e-tron to buy. The entry-level is the 50, which comes with two motors that can produce 340hp along with an 89kWh battery pack. The top-of-the-range cars is the SQ8 we have here. It s packing three electric motors that combine to put down 503hp. It s also equipped with a 106kWh battery. All-in-all, not much has changed compared to the previous car. So the question is, is it really worth the 69, 000 starting price? And should you really splash out 97, 000 for this SQ8 edition! You ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Can you please do offroad courses, I really miss the offroad courses, I have an idea of three cars, one is the Honda Airwave 2005 model & the Ford Ka 2006 Model & the BMW X2. Can you Mat and carwow do it pretty please, please everyone who ready this comment, support it so Mat & carwow can do it, I hope someone & Mat & carwow will ever see this comment, it will really make me happy and to see offroad courses to be back.

Interior hasn't changed much from previous generation yet they want you to pay Fort Knox money for it? No thank you. BMW and ofc Mercedes interiors look light years better.
100, 000 pounds. I dont care how much horsepower this thing has. There's more to life than horsepower and north to 60. The design both inside and out is underwhelming. Not befitting of a 6 figure car.

Leave it to VAG, to ask their customers to pay more money for less car. VW did that to the max with all the Golf variations.
Sportback SUVs are an absolute waste. No practicality of an SUV but still the drag coefficient of a wall.
The new carwow colours are going to cause eye cancer. The original colour was way more friendly to your eyes.

Yes, the Mercedes EQS SUV has better rear room, but then you have to live with the amorphous blob. I'd have this.
In another point, since this is now the 'Q8' e-Tron, is this then the same size as the ICE Q8? It looks slightly smaller, or is it just the perspective?

reply

Can't believe I'm saying this but 500hp is not even that much. for a 2. 6t car.
That's like a 1. 5t car having 290hp. which is decently fast, sure. that's comparable to an Golf R wagon.
But we're so used to electric cars having 650-750 or even 1000+HP now.

Thank you Audi. Good one Matt. Audi man here. Some how Audi is always under the list below BMW and Benz. It does not get the recognition it truly deserves. Carwow has done a fine job in giving Audi the air time it deserves.

The review was great, you nailed that impression of a baby. But the car is an abomination in terms of practicality and cannot be worth those 90 thousand pounds. Personally, I wouldn't pay half of that for it. Cheers

Hey Matt / carwow it would be cool if your talent acquisition team didn't ghost people after reaching out on Linkedin and asking if we would like to chat further. It doesn't look professional at all

That only confirms that cars made after 2020 are just shait and every brand is chasing after making money of plastic crap. How can u not put rear cup holders in a 70k sq8?

I have a e tron 55 and the mileage you get from a full charge is shocking. On a cold day you get 2 miles per kW and in summer you can see around 2. 8 miles per kW.
