Hot Dayum. Ahahahahha, Good Video I bought a used 1979 ( Porsche 928 /5-Speed) in 1987 from a friends dad that was a Mechanical Engineer in Boston Mass. He was super rich, had 6 or 7 cars and 3 or 4 trucks, but because he was 6'5 tall, with back issues, this car was always a problem for him. We were going to a Boston Celtics game at the Boston Garden (me, his son and daughter) and I joked and said, lets just drive the 928. His dad (Dave Sr. said, Yes, take it, it needs to be run, its been sitting for about 3 months) his son Dave Jr. had surgery on his foot and had a cast on so he could not drive, its a 5-speed. And then his daughter started to get sick (she was pregnant 2 months along and had no clue she was) so it was just Dave Jr and me. Man I fell in luv with that car as soon as I sat in it behind the wheel. SOOOOO. in the following March, his dad just said, Jim, you wanna buy the Porsche? I said yeah of course (joking. He said follow me. We went into his office in his house, he got the title and filled it out and had me sign. I was freakin stunned and thought ok, so this is a ball busing joke on me right? Then he handed me the keys and the title. He filled out the title and put down the price of 10k. He let me pay him 250. a month ( I had a great job at Raytheon in AndoverMass) After 2 years of payments he said because I took such good care of the car, and was dating and engaged to his daughter, the car was mine, paid in full. Little did we know that his daughter would break up with me 5 months later. .I had more fun and good times due to that car. In 1995 it was stolen and we never found her Oh, I need a tissue, Im about to cry. Dirty basturds stealing my car like that. I hope their cocks fall off

Amazing. Despite the story about writing off the chart at Porsche, the 918 is a water cooled V-8 same as the 928. Porsche is going to a mid engined water cooled V-8. I drove the 928, amazing engine, amazing suspension. The later twin cam model was gutless with no bottom end torque. The suspension bushings were oval to get the most handling out of the tires. The automatic transmission was a bulletproof responsive Mercedes transmission. All the whining about the back seat is your prejudice against German cars showing, every video you have done about a Ferrari-which has NO rear seats at all-wilfully ignores the rear seat issue in Ferraris and Italian cars. Doug, be fair and impartial.

At the days of the Porsche 928, only douchebags aka pussified American wannabe sports car drivers ordered the automatic transmission version. It was just the other group of Porsche customers, who had nothing to do with traditionally Porsche 911 die hard fans. Here in Germany quite 95% of 928 customers ordered the car with manual transmission. What DeMuro is critizising in this video, is quite an American problem. No serious sports car driver here in Germany would have bought the Porsche 928 with an automatic, because its manual transmission was absolutely Porsche-like perfect It was nothing but the best manual gear box at that time

Doug don't know what he is talking about I can mention a lot more modern sports cars that have more weird things than the 928 wrong person to talk about that car 50 50 weight distribution transaxle all aluminum engine timing belt almost seven feet long guaranteed to do 250. 000 miles before you even looked at the engine and last of all 40 plus years ahead of its time it got discontinued because of the dumb ass 911 Porsche fans that believed that a Porsche has to have the engine in the back and be air cooled now all the 911 cars still have the engine in the back but they are liquid cooled what a bummer

My detonics pocket 9 fit perfectly in the center console of my 92 928 gts Back In 1993 i picked up a piece of debris on Mulholland drive that unknowingly tore a hole in the oil cooler line needless to say that 45min drive back to watts locked up the motor it sat until 2000 and sold it for 22k with a blown motor I guess it being a 1 of 48 5 speeds made for 1992 helped hold it's value silver sate metallic paint and black ebony interior. Really wish I would've fixed it because they're 6 figure cars now

I worked on a few of the older models back in the day. There was an O2 sensor warning light on the dash which could only be reset by accessing a hidden reset button under the passenger seat carpet next to the rocker panel. Also, the 5-speed manual transmission models had superior performance and a dog-leg shifter which would lock out reverse so you could easily speed shift from first to second by slightly pulling shifter towards your thigh while throwing it upward towards second gear.

You are such an embarrassing idiot, DeMuroNo, Mr. DeMuro: the Porsche 928 was one of the most compelling V8 sports cars at that time. Just show me another car from that era, which was built from 1977-1995, which looks so fresh and so well aged like the 928The Porsche 928 could easily be a fantastic daily driver even today, if the car is in good shape.

I think these 928s, happily, are not being bumped up by existing Porsche fans, but bringing new outsiders into thinking, yeah I could own this, fix this. So my last months searches show me you can get a non-running one (5speed) for 2. 5k - 4k and and automatic could be 2k or lower. But go look at parts prices, whoa Easy price for admission, but better truly like the car, cause you're not flipping these for a profit.

Interesting note, the engine was detuned in order to satisfy the post oil embargo mentality of the early 80's. It was originally designed to be a 500 hp engine (not 350. All you have to do is replace the fuel injection nozzles and retune the fuel air mixture to boost the horsepower back up. Maybe if Porsche had left the horsepower alone, the 928 would have had a longer life and a more dedicated following.
