The best thing of the V8 is the sound. Power isn't an issue anymore.
Here we pay luxury tax based on CO2 output of the car. A V8 can easily cost double of the same car with a 4 cilinder.
3 cilinders are almost the new standard here for small cars. The 4 cilinder variants often aren't even for sale here.
VW has a 1 liter 3 cilinder that is designed for a max output of 260HP. I own a na car with that gasoline engine and with a little patience can achieve 60MPG.
I know people with that same engine turbo charged to 150HP that manage 55MPG.
So will the V8 survive? With fuel prices 6. 5 a gallon? You in the US can easily say: I'll be driving a V8 forever. Sure? And with our fuel prices?
Only for the rich. A V8 will be the weekend drive if you really want one.

While everyone is talking about the American V8(Sure, after all, That is pretty much what is prominent and sold at every corner lot in America, I appreciate the reliable small v8 engines, found in Toyota/Lexus products. We buy V8s because we love the sound and feel on the open road, as Scotty was mentioning, and Do Not care about Miles per Gallon, as we know/knew this going into this purchase. All though this V8 greatness is pretty much going away as well, some of us will still keep them, or continue to buy them. I too, at first was against them, but once I gave in, It was love at first sound.

Adding sounds to EVs will just cause a cacophany of different noises assaulting the ears every day. With each individual being able to select their car's sound there will be no standard sound for a pedestrian to key on subconsciously. Also, what keeps you from selecting a commercial and getting paid for playing it? You hit the accelerator and out comes a loud commercial for Honda, etc. (not to mention feminine hygiene products. Think it won't happen? Without a government standard it WILL happen.

I would want to disable the sound entirely, I drive a Prius now and it's very quiet. I've been driving it for 11years, have over 220, 000 miles on it, and never hit a pedestrian yet. I have had a few oblivious to their surroundings pedestrians walk into my completely stopped car because they weren't watching where they were walking. Why should car manufacturers have to make a car emit noise pollution to keep a few pedestrians from walking into completely stopped cars?

This is terrible news last week you told us that the most powerful best looking car on the planet (MUSTANG) has got gear box problems on the shift box as a certain part is made in China which is very strange maybe they do something on purpose this car should be built in America by Americans any complicated engineering manufacturing should only be done in the US OR THE UK I hope trump nows about this bad chino engineering

--------- nearly 40 years ago Cadillac assumed they struck it rich. their engineering dept. developed a V8 w/ deactivation technology allowing it to run on only 4 or 6 cylinders ------- it was inferior from the start ---- probably one of the worst V8 engines ever built in Detroit ----- second worse 350 Olds converted to diesel -------- a flat 6 is not flat at all when it comes to exhaust sound -----

All those high-output turbo-charged 4 or 6 cylinder engines have their own set of major problems. Pay now in gas (V8) or pay later in repairs (small engines with big turbos.

America cars used to have really shitty v8 engines that made hardly any power in a massively overweight chassis, times change, they are better, produce much more power and v8 is overkill for a family car and most people dont want a sports car, also the tightening of emissions regulations affects it. Why have a v8 when you can strap a turbo onto a smaller engine.
