I definitely think doing theatrical releases via itunes or whatever else is a great idea. While I have no interest in watching Trolls, this is an easy way to make a lot of movies way more accessible. Right now there are HUGE gaps in accessibility in new releases. Captioned showings tend to be during the day (as if disabled people don't have jobs) or at weird times in general. There may not even be captioned releases on opening night at all. And for people who cannot leave their house for physical or other medical reasons, this allows them to get into the excitement of a new release without having to have every movie spoiled before they can see it. I think an easy way to fix the wow so expensive vibe is not to call it a rental in the long run. Add another button for New Release or something like that and suddenly that 15 to 20 (which is what most city movie theaters charge nowadays anyway) won't seem that bad. Especially because if the rental period is 48 hours, you can actually watch it multiple times and have viewings with multiple groups if you wanted to. I'm definitely hoping this is something movie theaters look into for the long run

THEATRICAL RELEASE/AT HOME: As someone who has hours that generally don't fit with movie theaters (I manage a restaurant, and who likes to see movies in the original language (which are sometimes just very few of the available slots) I would TOTALLY be up for paying a little bit more but be able to watch the new release at 3am when I made it home. There are movies I really want to see on a bug screen and it takes a lot of effort and basically skipping on sleep to be able to catch them. I would certainly not have missed so many releases these past years if they'd been available to me like that. Also. It's a competition. I see the posters in the subway and I think oh yeah I wanna see that. And if I don't I forget about the movie. Sometimes for a long time. They rarely get as much advertising when released on DVD or streaming platforms. So I often have moments of oh I meant to watch that when it came out (many of those happen when Phil mentions a sequel. ie: I have yet to see any of the jumanji reboots. I think this could also help fight that phenomenon in a highly saturated market.

As an educator, I do have some issues with the kids will consume more media during school closures statement. In a time where students are quite literally missing out on education, the answer is to distract them with entertainment? Although I do agree that we do need some distractions and entertainment in these seemingly dark times, the lack of engagement by parents seems to be getting worse. With many families being placed on leave or being laid off, now would be the time to connect with your children and get involved in their education. Many of the jobs that are being cut are those of lower skill and education levels. If you don't want your children to repeat the cycle of what's happening today, get them educated. I don't mean book learning either. Teach them responsibility, work ethic, basic living skills, take them into nature, teach them about your upbringing, show them how to fold a fitted sheet. The last one, might be a stretch, but do something with your kids instead of letting them morph into a blob while watching Disney+

I usually go to the Amc by my house and only see movies that are on the dolby auditorium. Which costs me 27 dollars only for the ticket. i still pay upwards of 30 dollars in snacks for myself. Now when i take my 2 daughters and wife to the theaters, imagine how much money i spend then. I never complained because i absolutely love the movie going experience. I hope it never goes away, but the prices continue to go up and not down. Soon Production costs money and this is how we support hollywood coming up with new content won't be enough to justify me spending so much money for 1 movie when i can spend the same amount to watch up to 3 movies at home with snacks and alcoholic drinks included in my menu. Not to mention I use a projector in the living room, not a regular TV. So i can definitely make it a movie theater in my house. AND I'm a mobile DJ which means i own my Sound equipment and have no trouble hooking up my subwoofers to the home theater system and making the experience a Dolby Theater experience.

10 or 15 max to make it worth it for me. Because I'm more likely to get it at home, and it will only be me or one other watching it. I can watch it for way way way less in the theaters near me. (Like from 6 to 13. I can watch and buy more movies at home and dont have to worry about the timing or the gas to get there. So I understand a convenience fee, but it's just as convenient for them, it's not money they are losing by people not going to the theater. If they werent going to buy it after seeing it in the theater, they were going to buy it now. The only movie I think I've ever bought for myself without having first seen it is Parasite because I knew it would be sold. I am not going to pay the same price it would cost to buy it, just to see it at home early. Besides this would totally undercut cinema conceptually entirely while it costing consumers more, basically double the price. Its something that should have been available before this, but certainly not at this price.

I'm from Estonia. Within 4 days we went from laughing at reddit memes to office emails suggesting we work from home to borders closing, gyms, events, museums shutdowns, doctor centers turning down patients etc. Currently in a self 14 day preventative lockdown because of elderly relatives/ immunocompromised people. It is impossible to get tested if you're not 60+ and in serious condition no matter what the WHO asks of governments. The paid testing option is shut down. This happened in about 1k testing (not positive results but overall testing. And we're a country of 1. 3 million people only, we are not prepared. Stay at home, the already horrific numbers do not convey the real number of infected people Stay the fk home

As a massive film nerd - I am not excited for this transition to VOD. I realize that desperate times call for desperate measures, however this is going to lead to the end of movie theatres as we know them. These films are likely going to make more money than if they just released directly to theatres, making it more profitable and the new preferred distribution method for studios even after we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. In all honesty, this is dark news for those who love the visceral experience of seeing a new film on the big screen. I know its not the biggest thing to worry about right now, its just a disappointment.

It's not only a lack of testing the flu tests for years has only tested for very few strains. The tests have been trash as my old doctor put it. 20 bucks to rent it hell no thanks for gutting us at a time when people are afraid of losing there homes. Wow. 700 Billion a year we spend on entertainment and you have the nuts enough during a Pandemic to charge that. Wow. I call for all consumers to start practicing cautious consumerism every day not just in this time of need. This country has a bad homeless crisis and we spend on entertainment. Please in your time down look at your priorities hard. . Me too.

that study has been. .. not debunked, but realistic-ized. .. those times for how long the virus that causes Covid-19 can stay viable on various surfaces was in laboratory conditions, not in real-life conditions. Not only were typical light (including UV) not considered, weather, wind, temperature, rain, etc. were not taken into account and neither was the AMOUNT of the virus that would remain and how much of that would be required to actually hurt (one virus does not kill. .. ) so. .. while the info was correct, it was not realistic at all.
