LMU grad student here. we had a lot of trouble in March because they were closing off-campus affiliated housing even though it was still technically off campus. The students fought to stay and then they wanted to move them to on-campus. Again, we fought and finally won that, thankfully, and are able to stay in their original apartments. As far as money goes: We've been refunded meal plans, parking permits, and gym memberships. We will not receive any sort of tuition refund. Honestly, the ones hurting the most are international students and those who would have graduated in May. Several of the 3rd years (graduation year) i know have differed graduation to next year. This is due in part to my particular major (TV Writing and Producing) because end-of-year conferences and events are intended to help us network and find jobs. without those in-person events we're screwed. It also doesnt help that no one in our field will be hiring due to social distancing. Another issue: the incoming class of 2020. My major are referred to as cohorts and number usually around 10-18 people per year (we also have a feature writing same size, and a producing of around 40. Since fall semester is uncertain, several candidates are asking for a year deferment or not committing all together. That means 2020 cohort is going to be very small. It'll affect our teachers. Class size. Budget. Events. All in all. its a a shit show.

About the story covering the stimulus 1200/500. A bill has been proposed called the Every Dependent Counts Act. I was really hoping it would be mentioned here, because people need to call their representatives and try to get them to push for this bill. It would cover any adult dependents, so college kids/disabled adults/other adults that are dependents on someones taxes. The people claiming us (I'm an adult that is partially disabled so I don't have disability but I can't currently work) as dependents have increased costs because of us, and just like having children might need some help right now. College kids having to go back to parents places to live there but have no income, those kids are draining on their parents funds and now they won't have any way to help. I was heartbroken for all the people who need help and won't be getting any right now because of this.

This whole episode is about how incredibly messed up the US of A is. In Australia our politicians acted fast. Through Centrelink they where able to provide eligible people with payments directly to their bank accounts within weeks of announcing they will. They handled the situation swiftly and with a well formulated plan for the now and future. They had packages to assit as much people and business that will be affected. As a result we managed to flatten the curve and only have 6, 447 cases with around 40ish new people infected everyday for the last few days. I feel bad for the people who have to put up with incompetence and ego stroking in your country.

I'm pleased to say that my daughter (19) who goes to Brenau University in Georgia has received a reasonable refund of her room and board that is in accordance with her financial aid. The school was prompt and quite transparent in their efforts to take care of this once the campus was closed and classes transitioned to online only. However, on the note of the stimulus funds. that same daughter (19) is getting utterly screwed. We pay a portion of her schooling so therefore claim her as a dependent yet we get no child credit for her as she is 19. She eats just the same as the 16 & 14 yr olds do. yet she gets 0. Lovely. :(

My issue isn't with The Kleins, It's worth noting that the majority of these endeavors especially with celebrity influence (almost guaranteed to raise significantly more awareness and money to aid against COVID-19) are aimed specifically at The United States charities. Sure, they're in the states, so that makes sense - but this is a Global Pandemic, is it not? To be clear, my point is not about contributing and assisting your society or country. I just think there are much larger organizations and facilities out there with reach over multiple countries that may potentially have a larger impact.

Phil. I am a casual streamer and a chef. I have been temporary laid of because c 19. If I did the same did a giveaway of funds to helping people would I be treated the same as h3h3. As a guy who had to rebuild his life a few times. I was always grateful of the people who made sure they was good on the place and a roof on my head. Would I do if different. Yes. I privately donated to the local meals on wheels service. Because I just a small fish that wish he could do more. But if h3h3 and pubg thinking of ways to help. This will be over sooner rather than later.

Im a college student who goes away to college and has to pay for off-campus housing because I signed a lease already. Im still claimed as a dependent but I do work so my only chance of seeing any money is unemployment. However because Im a student and dont work very often I might not even qualify for that. All that is left is PUA which is still a good alternative but there are so many people who could benefit from the stimulus checks. In NYC (where my family is from) theres few places with rent lower than 1, 500 so one stimulus check wouldnt even cover rent.

The problem with Schools refunding is a lot of money has already been spent specially in private schools - paying Your teachers annual salary, buying school necessity & Equipment -Ie science art supply sports gear stationary. Library books School Furniture. Repairs to the school damage like broken windows. school janitors gardener i do believe some compensation yes, but realistically you are kinda Bleeding A Stone so to speak. No school in World was ready for covid-19 & a lot money is spent already. The Cost to run a school, is higher then you might think.
