As a European, I'm kind of horrified how quickly some American politicians, media representatives and public figures are ready to jump to conclusions before anything has been investigated and proven. The phrasing in many of these announcements, even those in leading law enforcement, would be considered deeply concerning in my country, especially when a situation is still being investigated. It shouldn't matter how much pressure you are under in the situation. If you are police, if you are media, if you are a public figure in the state, you should be capable of keeping calm. Politicians in my country would never, ever comment on hear-say or an ongoing investigation with such aggressive language.
This was probably nothing but a mere accident which gets blown out of proportion by people trying to push a political agenda. It's nothing but damaging and only strengthens the distrust between police and public, that is already strained enough as it is. This is why you shouldn't make strong accusations like these before you get the facts straight.

In the cop story: To be fair anybody would have the assumption the cops did, especially in this climate of things. I ate at BK once and it almost killed me - literally hospital, got air-mailed to another hospital, 150k hospital bill. It nearly killed me and had a huge impact on my life. I think about all the time what idiot screwed up there and nearly killed me. But there's nothing I can do about it because it's impossible to prove it came from there. Was on a road trip and the only other food was some slim jims and combos from gas stations - and I doubt that did it. So I think it's easy to jump to the conclusion that people do shit on purpose, when in fact it was just incompetence. So I don't agree with the people bashing the cops for this. You'd blame somebody too if you found cleaning products in your food that nearly killed you.

Just from a common sense point of view, if a person is forming opinions and views based on what Hannity and Lahren say or put out there, I pity that person. Regardless of their political stance, Hannity and Lahren just don't come across as intellectually sound people; they form thoughts based on their own world-views instead of looking at all the facts and evidence, and then shout louder than the facts to try legitimize their beliefs. They find a headline, and then twist to gain viewership. They are not reporters of facts, they are hype-men, so I guess from that POV, they are smart, because they are playing to an audience that is easily influenced, to get the clicks and views.

Banning chokeholds in general seems like a wrong move to me. To me there are two scenarios, an arrest of a normal person that is not or only lightly resisting and an arrest of someone who is actvely resisting and trying to get away. In the first case a chokehold is obviously over the top but what are the options in the latter situation? Most holds are dangerous if the subject resists and most are more difficult to use in such a situation. Is a broken arm better than getting choked out? Should they beat the subject unconcious?
IMO a chokehold is a great tool and it's easier to train an officer to use it right than any alternative solution.

Cops wanna be victimized so baaaaaaad.
But also. police should be gone. Teams of mental professionals and direct investment in low income and forgotten communities would do leagues more to stop crime than a million officers with reform training. Sure, maybe there could be a detective branch, where people got 4+ year degrees and who s only job would be to deal with solving violent crimes, which deals way more in investigating, tracking and commitment than protection as police generally get to violent crimes after they ve already happened. Restart, ground up, without the badges reminiscent of slave catchers, and actually serve communities.

The worst thing in my opinion, regarding the cops story, is how it seemed like they were going to war. Rather than saying, Our system has created a hostile environment for all parties, they said We cannot afford to let our guard down for even a moment.
Of course nobody should physically harm an officer, they are people too. However, the situation feels like it could get this bad because of how terrible the system and divide has become.
In a peaceful time, where cops didn't treat people like criminals or abuse their power, they wouldn't have suspected anyone if the cops were accidentally poisoned, but not in these times.

Not too sure about the poisoning case. There's other things popping up that deserve much more media attention. Some cops found a blade in their food and some national guardsmen found broken glass baked into the dough of their pizza. Looks to me like the media latched onto the least damning anti-enforcement case going on right now. Safe to say, I totally believe people are out to poison/harm cops. I know because I've seen it go on for years and years, even before now. The cases reported in the news are going up though. Hard to say if it's because people are insane or if it's just coincidence.

I wouldn t say there was no criminality with the milkshake. It s definitely a food safety violation. That sort of thing in the uk (I know it s in USA but I don t live there so it s all I ve got to compare with) comes with fines and a bunch of retraining so it s a bit weird to see them say no crime happened. If it wasn t intentional then the worker got sloppy while cleaning the machine. THAT is definitely someone that needs retraining instead of them going oopsie because they effectively poisoned 3 people. it doesn t change the fact that their actions did poison 3 people. So much yikes!

As an outsider looking at America, the defunding of the police sounds like a brilliant idea. Surely murica is a beautiful country with a lot of amazing people, but looking at how the state and system is functioning right now, it seems rotten to it's very core (sorry if i'm pissing someone off right now, just telling it how it looks from over here, which is why small adjustments won't be sufficiant long term. Really hope all these protests will result in some great changes!

I am afraid that people are taking very abrupt steps to defund and abolish the police just to appease the protesters, when it is a slow process that needs time to set in and for everyone to adjust. If they just remove money from the police immediately and throw it to other services, violence is not gonna go down and might even increase, which is exactly what the police needs to say see? I told you we are the only solution to crime and go right back to the status quo.
