I watch the PDS everyday, in the last 5 years I've only missed an episode or two. That being said, I hardly ever come down to the comments, but here I am, if for nothing else to vent.
I live in a small, but very popular tourist town in Southern Maine. I work in a warehouse that provides supplies and food to local restaurants, and I was Laid off back in the middle of March because Janet Mills, our governor, was one of the first to shut everything down, lazily I might add, but she did so. We have kept our numbers down, and because of that all the businesses in the state started crying about how this was all fake news (Maines a very Trump popular state) and they all started protesting and having rallies for reopening. All of the restaurants in the area had gotten together about 500 people to do a rally at one of the restaurants in town. It was broken up by the governor, which was seen as she was trying to hinder them.
Finally at the end of May, the governor had to give in and started reopening everything slowly. No bars could be open, no inside dining, social distancing, anyone non-essential coming into the state was Required, (it was never enforced) to quarantine for 14 days, etc. Luckily somehow we have kept our numbers down. So two weeks ago she opened everything back up at the businesses discretion, and said that people specifically coming from Vermont and Connecticut no longer had to quarantine if coming into the state as they are seeing a reduction in numbers.
As I said before, the quarantine was never enforced to begin with, the police departments out right refused to enforce it, so it hasn't stopped anyone from coming up and going out at all.
This week I was called back to work, and just driving down the road I'm seeing all the Snowbirds from Florida are up here and going out to eat, I've seen people from Texas, California, Georgia, and many more all up here, I'm assuming to flee the virus in their own states. There isn't anyone but the locals wearing masks, and at this point all it would take is one tourist testing positive to shut everything down again because they all eat at all the same places. If it gets found at Restaurant A you'll likely see it at Restaurants B, C, and D also. And our governor has gone radio silent for almost a week now.
I cannot afford to get laid off again, but it definitely seems like it is more and more of a possibility each day. Thursday Morning, going into the Fourth Of July weekend the Maine Turnpike was backed up into New Hampshire with people from all over coming into Southern Maine for the Holiday. Our Beaches are packed, our restaurants are packed and our hotels are full. It's not good for business and it's not good for the economy.
If your plans include coming to Maine this weekend, I would ask you to reconsider because I, and quite a few others have a sinking feeling that you're looking at the next hotspot. Those of us that live here cannot afford to have that happen. Our hospitals are small, and are already low on equipment and beds.

It's really scary times for me right now. I was laid off from my factory job. Then they hired most of us back, but made us go to completely different shifts, throwing my whole life into chaos. Then they finally let some of us return to our normal shift. However, it was not a safe working environment at all. They did not require anyone to wear masks inside the building (with over 50 employees all in close proximity, and only had hand sanitizer in some locations (which you could not just go and use, as you cannot walk off your press, and the only cleaning supplies were that some of us had some diluted bleach. Then they were requiring us to work 7 days a week non-stop, and refused to listen to any of our complaints. Did not train any new people properly, so we were just cycling through new people over and over as no one wanted to stay and be worked to death without even being trained. I eventually couldn't handle the stress on my body anymore, as working a month straight without days off in a labor-intensive job like a factory was just too much for me to handle. So I quit after being put on a machine with an older lady, a machine our boss knew good and well we could not run due to the speed and physical requirements, so I had to quit. So looking for a new job so I can pay my house payments right now, and receiving no calls back, and I'm just stuck on what to do. I have enough savings to last me a bit, but using those up will mean ruining my future plans to return to school and everything. So yeah. Scary times, though I'm sure some people are in much worse situations than me right now.

Two stories, one of roommate experience, one of mine.
One roommate is a chef who got hired back by their company and worked for a few weeks as a chef, then is now on unemployment again. During work they told me the company took covid seriously, masks, distancing, limiting numbers of ppl in building, frequent hand washing, testing temperature, the works.
Another roommate is working as a mechanic and got back to work recently but is still working. They dont take covid as seriously, both the roommate and the company they work for. It makes me concerned to be in a house near them and it makes me want them to wear a mask at home but they won't.
My experience is that I'm an essential employee but my role with the company was to handle extra shifts that sites needed filling. I am a rover so I go to a bunch of sites to fill coverage when someone can't fill that coverage. I dont have a permanent site so I asked to be taken off the schedule for a few months to evaluate covid. My company complied but would have put me back to work at a moments notice so I didnt qualify for unemployment and had to eat into my savings for several months. I'm back to work trying to minimize contact with others by working mostly night shifts. I'd prefer to wait at home until we get things under control but the USA isnt New Zealand. I'm scared of covid but I take every precaution I can, wearing masks, frequent hand washing, no touching face, social distancing. But yeah 3 months of not working took a toll on my savings. I just wanted to be safe and responsible but it bit me in the ass: (

So, I can maybe comment on the Seed Beauty thing. I run a company that sells things online and my immediate thought is; your logistics management must be pretty fantastic to manage that many orders. In fact, one of the things that I am both confident and insecure about as a company management is the question, Do I think that someone else can do what I do better? Seed Beauty's secret sauce is probably just we worked hard and we worked out all of the kinks and we have learned a lot. And it's those lessons in terms of organization that a company like Coty could steal, technically, without making the sacrifices that Seed Beauty would have made.
The same is true for app development. There's a lot of bugs that you have to fix along the way and paradigms you have to shift before the app is what it needs to be, but if someone comes in and simply takes the end product, no matter how simple, they circumvent all the risks that needed to be taken to arrive at the end conclusion.
It's kind of like copying someone else's book review so you don't have to read the actual book. It gets the job done, but the person who wrote the book put in all the work and they might not even reap the reward if the teacher decides they are in fact the person who copied the copier. Yunno?

I was laid off and received no relief UE benefits stimulus I got a loan. That was it. Went back to work in NM at a tourist trap diner and holy shit you would not believe the entitlement from our tourist guests. They scoff at masks rules they flinch when I deliver things to their table placing their shit at the edge of my tray. Look if you want me to have the responsibility of serving you take up the responsibility of grabbing ur own shit from the edge of my tray. I go back inside and instantly sanitize myself the tray and repeat. It's exhausting. I've gotten more thank yous lately from ppl who want me to social distance. I'm the only one providing that type of service and I haven't seen that type of service when I've gone out. But its what keeps me comfortable. Personally not that any of my customers care but I have people in my life I care about that are vulnerable to this disease that I'd rather be my point of contact. Not a bunch of randos. So if being 100% extra careful means I can be comfortable in a living room w my loved ones so be it. But looking at all these new stats I'm not gonna be so nice explaining that to my customers anymore

I was furloughed March 15th and was brought back to work at the end of May doing take out for the restaurant I work at in San Diego county. Early June we opened back up for dinner service. Governor Newsom has shut down all neighboring counties in anticipation of the 4th of July. We fear that we ll see an influx of people coming to San Diego due to their counties being closed. This could mean a spike in numbers and more closures. Though I m still receiving partial unemployment, knowing the extra 600 will be ending at the same time that numbers are rising and cities are closing is terrifying to say the least. It feels as though I m choosing between my physical health and being able to pay my bills. I have to choose between my career and potentially catching covid. It s surreal going to work in a mask serving people not wearing masks. Some ask what the mask protocol is for our restaurant and what they should do to keep me safe. I wish I could tell them that the best thing they could do to keep me safe is simply stay home and stop going out to eat. Unfortunately this is how I make a living and this is what life has turned into.

Fallout the show
Let's think about how successful these game to movies tend to turn out.
Let's think about how Bethesda couldn't make a new fallout game to save their life.
Phil how do you have hope? Why do you have hope? This is mixing two incredibly bad ideas together. I am never the type to judge something before I've seen it, but here, it's a guaranteed failure, I can judge it right now. The people behind the project are shit people. Using a property they bought but don't understand or care about, to make money, and lie to customers. Bethesda have no fanbase anymore. They are a joke of a company. And teaming up with them for this project, Amazon are only going to lose out big time. Which is not a bad thing really, Amazon are a scumbag company too. But Amazon stays huge because they're actually good at their job. It is really insane they'd team up with trashpile Bethesda for this. But I hope all involved get what they deserve.
There is no nope to be had for this series.

It seems like everyone just wants to bash on the USA for it's handling of COVID-19. Maybe at some point we should also talk about the countries that are handling this better, similar, and even worse then the USA. Currently the USA has a positive test rate of 7. 98% with 10. 7% of it's population tested. Brazil has a positive test rate of 46. 5% with 1. 52% of it's population tested. The UK has a positive test rate of 2. 86% with 14. 6% of it's population tested.
The UK has the 2nd highest testes percent of countries with populations over 9. 8 million. The USA is 7th.
You could also compare the USA's percent of positive cases 0. 85% of it's whole population vs Sweden's 0. 70% while taking into account the USA has tested 10. 7% of it's population and Sweden has tested 5. 14% of it's population. Sweden's positive rate is 13. 6%.
Why is it that the USA and Sweden seem so similar when you look at how much better the UK seems to be doing and how much worse Brazil is?

I understand that you don't feel that wearing a mask is a political opinion but as someone living in the rural section of a fly over state wearing a mask is absolutely a political statement, and the data I've seen suggests that wearing a mask is only effective if both parties do it. So if I'm the only one wearing a mask in public (which is a situation I've bee in whenever I go out) that my mask wearing is not effective. At the same time I don't feel that using authority to enforce mask wearing has been particularly effective either. I just wish our politicians and the mainstream news media who takes their beats from politicians would not have made mask wearing into a political issue. However as one in a region where mask wearing remains uncommon, I don't know what to do, other than wear a mask (which I see as ultimately ineffective as most other people do not) and hope for the best.

Excuse the shorthand I m going to use in this wall of text. I m in PA and work in a restaurant. I went back to work last Monday but I can see the shutdown coming back from a mile away. Thankfully, for the first time in my life, I m happy I work for a corporate chain but I think shutting us down when we just started to reopen will kill us despite the fact that we have a huge conglomerate behind us. I hate this job but at least they pay for my insurance right now. If it s not for the extra 600 a week I only make 50 on unemployment so we need to keep that going unless you want all of the bartenders and servers in the US to go bankrupt. This country needs to get this under control. Everyone needs to vote in November and wear a goddamn mask! If I have asthma and can wear it for 12 hours while running around you can wear it when you leave your house!
