Classrooms were over crowded when i was in elementary school 8 years ago, with anywhere from 30-35 kids per one teacher, sometimes the rooms not having enough desks for everyone. So how is it that a standard sized classroom is supposed to then be able to keep desks 6 feet apart? How are teachers meant to keep students wearing a mask? What about lunch time? How many kids can one student socialize with? How does the administration enforce that? There's no way to keep kids from getting eachother sick in this instance, because look at a standard flu season, and this virus on top of that has an incubation period of 1-2 weeks. Kids are messy and they are gross and they share germs. Reopening schools with no real plan in place, no help from the government other than the order to open, could have a horrific impact on the mortality rate of our children. It sucks that kids are falling behind with online learning, but is them risking there life to a virus really worth them not having to repeat a grade?

The real reason they want schools to reopen is so parents don't have another excuse to not go back to work. Remember, they want everything open and running 100% so they can say look at the economy. Losing people to this isn't a factor in this, it's losing money. They love to talk about low death percentages (which that count hasn't caught up as it takes people time to die) but not about what has happened with the survivors. So, on top of a lot of deaths coming up look for a great deal of people trying to get disability because of the after effects. By the time that happens Trump will be out of office and if a non Republican is in office they will blame deficit and money issues for this on them.

Thank you, Phil, for acknowledging that birth control is not just prescribed as a contraceptive. Birth control is a medical treatment for a large array of disorders and symptoms. Based on the Court s logic, I guess if I m a Jehovah Witness business owner, I don t have to cover my employees blood transfusions because I am personally opposed to the practice. That sounds ridiculous, but the argument could easily be made with the precedent the Court just set. Religious freedom is supposed to protect your right to practice whatever religion you want; it IS NOT supposed to allow you to force others to follow your belief system.

to get a student visa you need the approval of the university, if they have it what does it matter if they take it or not! it's not like they signed up for an online course originally! Also, as they said, the way the world is now, it's not like they can go back to there homes right now even if they want to!
and if you don't want to see the human, logical reason then let's go for the economic one - they are spending huge amounts of money to stay in the US! Being an international student is NOT cheap and for a government clamoring to reopen the economy, are they seriously literally chasing away these kids?

Please. Think about your teachers, cafeteria+janitorial staff, and bus drivers. I got sick nearly once a month last year teaching in a middle school, only 10 days of sick leave so I worked through most of it because I need to save sick days as I was trying to get pregnant and needed them or in case of an actual emergency. On top of this, now my one year old brother (he s technically in foster care w my parents) has a fever of 102 degrees and he has only interacted with social services providers - this shit is terrifying. His results come back later this week.

I'm going to disagree with the question posed at the end. You asked whether or not a company should be able to deny birth control on the basis of moral and religious objections. Thst, imo, is irrelevant as the Supreme Court is not supposed to make rulings on what is right and wrong, only on what the law does and does not mean.
I don't know if it's the right call because I would have to examine the preexisting laws and come to a conclusion on whether or not this passes legal muster, which is the opinion everyone here should have.

Can I have safe access to an abortion if I have an unwanted pregnancy?
OMG no, that's murder.
Can I have access to birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy and treat my medical conditon?
OMG no, someone here has a religious belief that is inexplicably more important than your healthcare.
If the question is is the f ed up thing that is a result of the completely broken system that prioritizes pretty much everything over people f ed up? the answer is not really, it's just a red herring. The system is the issue.

Yeah that apology sounds like a copy and paste response. I believe calling bigoted behavior out to companies and hitting them in the wallet is fine.
My real concern is if it spreads into DOXing. People get excessive with their feelings. He is obviously a garbage human, but remember that we do not get to be judge, jury and executioner, and releasing personal (not employment) information is inviting a dangerous situation. (Not that that was brought up, but I m sure that is the next step)

the government in the US is at its all time low. I'm so glad I don't live there no more and I moved up north. the people there are great for the most part, it just sucks when you got main stream media and the government trying to isolate and divide everyone at the same time. all you international students need to come over to Canada. York University and University of Toronto both got you plus we hold down people from all over the world in this city!

I can't (and can) believe ICE is targeting student visas for international students DURING A PANDEMIC. Especially since the education office doesn't want to see the US fall behind as other countries begin to reopen- news flash, we've always played 2nd fiddle in terms of education. Cutting off students from other countries is only going to stunt America's academic growth. Trump's office trying to force universitites to reopen is some grade A dumb shit.
