11 years 11 months and 2 weeks ago I ended up with three major concussions in 2 days I should have died I should have been permanently disabled and yet I didn't even have a hematoma after cracking a windshield and cracking parking lot ice in Banff Alberta with my skull and having my head smashed into a concrete floor by a 250 lb man ( at the time I was 105 lb. when I arrived in hospital I did not know my name or my address all I knew is that I lived Elsewhere on the ocean, I could barely remember half the English language and I had the memory of a goldfish, it took several years for my brain to heal and 6 and 3/4 years for the partial Amnesia to stop and those were the most Blissful years of my life, I went from having an IQ well over 140 to being mentally disabled I had so many issues but my IQ had been dropped so much that I walked around with a smile on my face and this will that couldn't be broken it was truly a thing of amazement and beauty, now that my brain is healed and the partial Amnesia is over I'm capable of being miserable again and I'm so ready to just go smash my head over and over again to reclaim that sort of innocence and joy

The human brain has limited space, like a computer, and as we evolve (emotionally, physically, and logically) many of these disorders are being discovered to be evolutionary traits that the brain has rewired to perform a select number of tasks or processes easier, and in doing so has removed other portions of older evolutions it has deemed not as required. One day I truly hope society is able to appreciate this, work around it, and allow people to work in fields they are made for in ways that are less designed for a general societal type of person and more focused on putting people where they mentally belong.
Its evolution, disorders (many of them) are there for a reason, they are majority genetic and allow you to do certain things better than others, but at a cost. Like uninstalling one app to download another because your phone has no hard drive space left. Realize you struggle due to outside reasons, it helped me become more self aware that I was not the cause for my problems, other people and society was and I just didn't fit in the box they wanted. It helps you at least accept yourself which is a huge step in growth: )

A LOT of this resonated with me, and my IQ is WAY average for someone my age (130+, I HATE IT. From childhood, I've struggled to make connections, and actually avoid trying to make friends with people my age or get a boyfriend, and prefer solitude to be alone with my thoughts and ideas. I don't see the point in engaging in these connections. I have interests that people my age aren't interested in AT ALL, and thoughts that people my age don't have, like capitalism and the social hierarchy, psychology, or the development of AI and how it'll impact society (I'm nearly 23. I find it hard to find people who I can discuss my ideas with. I've also battled severe depression and social anxiety as a teenager due to being isolated from others, and being bullied for being a know-it-all and being called the smart girl. Even at university I get leaned on for being really smart when I don't even think I'm that smart AT ALL! Intelligence is BOTH a blessing and a curse. I actually envy people who aren't intelligent.

I can relate to EVERY SINGLE ONE! I have ADHD and Aspergers and Im extremely intelligent (I could spell and read by the time I was three) but I have a tendency to get overly stressed over the littlest things. I get extremely defensive over anything. Im super-aware over everything; I can never focus on only one thing, which makes it difficult to focus on certain things and therefore I get distracted super easily. But being super-aware has actually helped me put quite a few times; it even saved my life by helping me notice when a school bully tried to jump on me at one point (that and being able to see out of the corner of my eye) And since Im so different, Ive been ridiculed and treated differently my whole life, even by my own parents who keep treating me like a kid despite the fact Im 31 years old. Yes, I may have problems with financial terms, which is the only reason why I cant live on my own but theyd rather let me figure it out on my own and fail rather than teach me to be successful.

Im not at all a highly intelligent person, nor will I claim to be. In my classes I am average at best and lackluster at worst in everything except English. Due to my upbringing, however, I was taught that perfection is the standard. Because of that, Id get stressed whenever I didnt get perfect. Ive only gotten one C on a test in my life and I threw that test away, knowing that my parents would give me a lecture on how it was unacceptable that I got anything lower than an A. If I didnt get an 100 percent on a test, my parents would never see it. If I wasnt above average, then I wasnt good enough. I tied my self worth to my grades. If it wasnt an A then I might as well have failed. It was especially bad when I would have an F in a class. My stress levels would skyrocket and I remember one time I cried because my F didnt seem to go away.
Again, Im not in any way whatsoever overly intelligent, but I still relate to it as a gifted burn out kid

The title says highly intelligent people, then talks about IQ. quite different things. Then a single nutrient is hypothesized to cause higher rates of 'mental illness, ' which is flatout ridiculous as most mental health conditions haven't been shown to be biologically based, and even if they are, it's ridiculous to blame schizo, depression, OCD, psychopathy, etc etc on a single molecule. Then MENSA is invoked. yeah, that's not even a good measure of high IQ folk, let alone highly intelligent people. Who is drawn to even join such a group? I'm not aware of any recognized geniuses that are members. It's a group of puzzle lovers from what I've been able to gather. Can't watch any more, a bit over a minute is enough. Sigh, the struggle of being highly intelligent.

For me, all of my relatives were retail workers, construction workers, and mechanics. I on the other hand had a huge vocabulary, constantly read, knew how to write before kindergarten (without expensive preschool, and got into a lot of advanced classes as a kid. I gravitated to NO ONE in my family as a result. They never got me. Then, in school, as the years grew on, I developed what I called the B+ philosophy. I realized that if you always got As, people expected the As. even of that C in a class you struggled with was the best you could do. However, if you were a straight B+ student, a C wasn't so bad, better luck next time, but Wow! Good job on that A! was a regular.

Im 15 and have grown up as a gifted kid. I can definitely relate to the perfectionism, its always in the back of my mind. Last year my English teacher said she could tell just by my handwriting that I was a perfectionist. It makes sense cuz I always make sure my letters are the same size, thickness, and distance from the lower line. And I can also relate to not wanting other peoples help. I like to make music, but I dont know how to play instruments, so when I wanna record something I get together with friends. Sadly, I am super strict with how I want it to sound and how it will be, because I know what it sounds like in my mind, and THATS how its gotta sound.

Highly intelligent has been used to describe me for a lot of my life. One of the areas I seem to struggle with is when I am in a group learning environment (ie. college courses or job training. When information is being given to the group, many people ask for clarification or to have information repeated. There is nothing (and I mean nothing) wrong with ensuring ones self fully understands. However, I believe those working with a higher intelligence become more bored with the class and therefore we tend to let our minds wander and get distracted from the lesson. What do you think? Is this a possible side effect of higher intelligence?

I watched this video hoping I could see whether or not I'm intelligent. But then again, everyone naturally has bias, and it's impossible to fully conceal it. So if I tried to see it for myself, I would unconsciously sway the odds in my favor due to bias without even realizing it.
Measuring intelligence is nearly impossible to do accurately, let alone doing it on yourself
So moral of the story. uh, basically I made no progress other than the fact that this video does help point me in the right direction when spotting an intelligent person. Because at least intelligent people tend to not enjoy small talk

I'm a highly intelligent and artistically creative person, despite my inability to pass the entrance tests for the Mensa, and for all my life I've been misunderstood and I've struggled to find social acceptance. I'm also one of those INFJ personalities. Yeah and let me tell you, if you deliberately wanted to give someone a difficult life, you couldn't do better than to give them the ability to innocently love and understand young girls and have the girls much fond of you, and then you're accused dirty old man and you have the police called on you. Loads of fun.

I have a question, Ive always been above average scores in math class, Ive always been told that my gift is for math but would the constant pressure make someone feel like theyre not doing good enough to give up and stop trying? Because right now I understand the material. mostly my memory is starting to get worst and my mother is making excuses for me to not get a CAT scan anyways its come down to I dont want to do it because Ive tried and it wasnt good enough so why try again kinda thing

Ok so I was diagnosed with severe generalized anxiety (and depression and adhd) as a kid and that low choline thing is one of the few things I remember the person who diagnosed me mentioned. I didnt expect that to be in this video. damn. and yes self aware, depression, overly stressed about everything as I over analyze things and constantly worry about everything. not to mention the whole feeling like a social burden. yet I have no self esteem.

Idk why yt doesn't like me explaining my opinion on things, but I guess Ill comment here instead of your own comment:
Well, it depends on your social environment, who said it can't be both?
I see myself suffer quite a lot from most problems pointed out by you as well as a lack of motivation.
But if this is out weight by an ability to logically (de-)construct, is merely based on opinions.
I think it's more of a curse than a blessing

As one of the few people who have 180+ iq, I can confirm it sucks most of the time. You get a little bit of social praise every now and again due to it as compensation for no social life. It brings such stress from things most people would overlook and discard, in short it is a hellhole that I would gladly trade for a large amount of empathy, or high emotional intelligence.

High intelligence is a curse.
Youre forced to shut your mouth and move on, especially when trying to reason with someone who is incorrect and unwilling to budge. Like trying to reason with conspiracy theorists.
And it leads (especially in my case) to heavy nihilism. Plus the fact youre intelligent means people expect you to do more and hold you to higher standards.

The more intelligent you are, the less interest you have in/with people.
I stopped caring how I look to people I used to judge myself based on the success/money I had against others. I was smart but immature. Now Im older, I realise theres way more smarter people than me, intelligence is nothing without wisdom and I value my health and time over anything else.

My teachers would often argue with me, and I was always portrayed as the idiot by them, they turned the class against me and made me feel like an outcast. When we would argue or when I would explain myself, the teachers wouldnt understand and I had to explain everything like I was speaking with a toddler. Idk if Im smart or not but that was just a thought

Intelligence is a curse and even if you find a use for it you quickly become bored. You grow tired of relationships, work, and the world. Your in constant search of that piece of knowledge that might bring ease but the more you learn the less you understand. All in all your mind because a neverending loop only salvation is death or mental breakdown.

I think the problem is that most people dont realize the trade-off that high intelligence has. Usually, people who are smart, lack other necessary intelligences, like social or emotional. As someone with an 150+ IQ, it really isnt the best thing to have. It makes having deep conversations really hard.

idk if thats kinda off-topic but i have an iq of a genius and actually, i think that it's good when people picture smart people as silly nerds, because people might feel sad because theres way smarter people than them, because they feel not-so-smart, and i think that it compenses it.

I know people who were told as children they were very bright. They really aren't, but they can't stand to lose at games or lose an argument. I know several true
geniuses, who have invented things and are very sweet. Some fields are rewarded, some are not. Tina, Al's wife

Lol this is only a problem that people who are unaware of the Dunning Kruger effect face. You are just probably not as smart as you think you are. Ask yourself, am I smart, or have I simply gotten really good at deceiving others and myself?
