The curb chain is worn below the lower lip, not the nose. It's not a feather, it's a plume. You're assigned extra Shifts if you're kit isn't good enough. You get stopped on inspection and then you have to attend a show parade in full kit. If you get stopped for 3 or more things that's called being in bad order, and you go to jail. You don't clean it every day, you clean it when you need to. You don't have time to clean it every day. It's St. James' PALACE, not place. The Guards don't travel with the Royal Family, they'd be on duty at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, St. James' Palace or the Tower Of London whether they were in residence or not. They would NEVER be on duty at Holyrood Palace. You don't transition in or out of being in the Guards, if you're in the Regiment you're in the Regiment. You would just be posted elsewhere in the world. Ceremonial duties are carried out by whichever Battalions happen to be posted in or around London. During the 2 hours that you're on stag (Sentry duty, you don't spend it all standing to attention. You spend the vast majority of it standing at ease, you would also patrol 15 paces to your right, or left depending which post you're on every 10 minutes or so. Some posts vary in the amount of paces that you would do. You're NOT encourage to Shuffle around a bit. You're not docked a weeks pay for reacting to anything. Most of this is nonsense and ill informed. I served for almost 20 years in the Coldstream Guards, I've done hundreds of Guards in that time so I think I would know. This is just another example of Americans thinking they know what they're talking about but in actual fact knowing absolutely nothing.

Look, the reason why black bears dont maul more humans is not just because of our lack of interaction, and dont mislead people and act like its all because they are scared of people. An old lady in the Carolinas was eaten (presumably face first) by a black bear by staying too close to it.
We can stop the practice of getting rid of the black bears that they normal kill for the hats or we can start letting them run wild and through neighborhoods, like they do in New Jersey, tearing into anything, including family homes, that they think they can get a quick meal from. Once they learn that trash is an easy source, it wont take long for them to start inhabiting suburban areas, most of what Canada consists of.
Even the most disgusting animals rights advocate will STFU and admit culling them from time is necessary if you dont want your in laws or your own mother eaten by one after it breaks into their house.

The bearskin cap was adopted after defeating Napoleon Royal Guards and it has a wicker frame the plum are to help the General to see the position of the Regiments. And the Grenadier plum is White not Red. And the SA80 rifle are real so you best back of. Oh and that shot of the guard punching a chap is Scam he has no curb chain or buff belt. I get upset when people show no respect to any service personnel who may have to put their lives at risk stay safe and respect each other

the blood stain thing is also not true, because when red cloth comes in contact with blood, it stains black. also. pretty sure when someone gets hit with a 75 caliber ball moving slower than the speed of smell compared to modern bullets, you wont be needing a red stain to tell if theyve been hit. theyll probably fall down with the screams of agony as their ribs explode like a grenade, impailing their insides with bone fragments.

American here, at 16 I had the pleasure of visiting England with my family and saw the royal guard on duty. I'd heard they got harassed and being a silly teen came to apologize to the man at the gate. I probably spoke to him for 15 minutes before heading off and he, ofcourse, stayed professional. Looking back on it years later, I bet he was both amused and annoyed at the silly American girl interfering with his job.

The Red Tunic is due to the colour, red invokes the Fight or Flight mode in the enemy, the Bearskin is so high because when they used to wear them in battle it made them look Taller so both these together were supposed to scare the s#it out of the enemy, it obviously didn't work with the Gurkhas.

They are not made of bear skins anymore, scots royal archers do use a plum its an eagle feather. These guys are entitled to piss off the tourists if they show disrespect. The guys at Arlington in the US yell at you if you make the slightest noise. No accounting for tourist jerks.

There is a few things that isn't true in this video grenadier guards have a white plume on the left and all guards will Continue to do ceremonial duties until end of service button's are also silver unless you are a senior nco or officer

I'm actually more curious about why the fabric type material that is covering parts of the rifle. In a country that has a reputation for frequent rain, did the Brits forget to make their rifles tolerant of rain?
reply

But they are not the people who actually protect the queen - the guns are empty, they have no armour, AA or AT. would have been better to have one on the people WHO DO GUARD THE QUEEN
reply

but there was nothing on the guards themselves saying what it was like to personally guard the queen herself. not the places she basically owns >. > quite a misleading video.
reply

How do they know if the guards arent perfectly still? It means they are being supervised too, so the supervisor must have a worse job, watching people stand still all day.
reply

this honestly seems like one of the worst jobs ever.
standing still, no water, heavy hot uniform, no speaking.
i dont get why anyone would willingly take this job

reply

Grenadiers have a White plume on the left of the bearskin, and the red tunics made it difficult to count them from afar. Get your facts right before you blabber on!
reply

I don't know why you would go to a foreign country and mess with the people guarding the head of state.
Would you go to North Korea and mess with his guards?

reply

I was in London in 2012 and when walking through Horse Guard's I said Thanks for your service. Whenever I walked by a guard just to make they're day better: )

A 2 hour watch really isn't bad. I'm an American sailor, but if I was in the British military I would love that duty. I'll bet it is hard to get.
reply

theres only one reason to wear the ridiculous hats that i can imagine, and that is to make the opposition laugh at the funny hair look

My partner had said how the constant shifts of standing bolt upright shot up his back. he still suffers 12 years after leaving service.

Why won't people let traditions go when they no longer have value or purpose? Maybe just wear the weird stuff on major royal functions?
