Wow, these pop songs did NOT age well. For this list, well be looking at the most problematic and dated tracks in the genre. Our countdown includes Alfie, Nasty Girl, Unbreakable, and more! Which songs do YOU think have aged like milk?

UR SO GAY NEEDS CONTEXT. It's completely written about Pete Wentz. Bc of all of the rumors about Pete Wentz and Mikey Way (petekey) that went down in 2005 that has been dubbed the Summer of Like. Pete was writing lots of very pointed sad boy romantic things in his LiveJournal account that allegedly were about Mikey. That and many songs off their album Infinity on High (incouding albums after but thus was djrecrly following 2005) were written about Mikey (i. e. Bang the Doldrums and G. I. NA. S. F. S (gay is not a synonym for shitty) seeing as many of the lyrics were taken from his LJ posts during. Pete has also stated that he's only gay above the waist on numerous occasions. Theres quite a few threads of archived posts and photos from then if anyone is interested in it!

You are kidding me with these, right?
A song that raised millions to help starving children in Africa has aged badly?
A song that criticizes scantily dressed women because they won't be taken seriously isn't still topical?
A song mocking Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan is taking power away from women? You think Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan are a good role models? They literally served jail time.
And no matter how people decided to interpret the Blurred Lines lyrics, it's still a jamming song. And you can't have it both ways. You can't criticize Nasty Girl for being liberated, and criticize Blurred Lines for liberating shy girls. Pick a side.

R. Kelly has a spilt personality disorder. Personality disorders are conditions in which an individual differs significantly from an average person, in terms of how they think, perceive, feel or relate to others. Changes in how a person feels and distorted beliefs about other people can lead to odd behaviour, which can be distressing and may upset others. Now R. Kelly was the nice guy you see on stage until the he stops preforming and Robert comes out the bad guy. Not defending him on that but I notice in the documentary Surviving R. Kelly.

Okay - yes, I would agree some of them have not aged well, but Do They Know It's Christmas? Sorry, you missed the mark on this one - Without this venture there would be no Live Aid, Farm Aid, Comic Relief. And only naming Africa. IT WAS A BENEFIT FOR AFRICAN RELIEF. have a seat please. Go back to your other bad videos. Also, stop judging the past by today's ideas, it's not a good look. Times and people change - I am sure there are MANY people that would not want to be judged now on what they said or did in the past. .

Well many of this ecamples show how artists change their mind and the way they see things and how times change, I bet those 15-20 years ago most people didn't see anything wrong with the message of some of those songs.
Also Do they know it's christmas time surprised me a little. Because that was the only one that you can actually hear a lot in radio (or at least in my country) and I'd never suspect there is something controversial about this song.

I absolutely agree with the the Nasty Girl entry, but Cater to U is an unfair comparison. The Destiny Fulfilled album clearly meant to portray a timeline of love and relationships as the tracks progressed, how they can end, and how someone can move on with support and emotional maturity. The song is very relatable for people to feel like they need to overperform in a new relationship, and coincidentally it was positioned early in the album.

Do What U Want is one of Gagas best songs, and damn, that chemistry she has with R Kelly in the track is one of the best in pop history. Such a shame that she pulled out the R Kelly version from media, I mean, she must have to hold her decision to work with him, she knew about Kellys accusations and she still decided to work with him, specially when the song is sooo good
reply

Also another Destiny's Child song is With Me, with the original line up. I guess during this time, they were at an age where it was okay to be Becky With the Good Hair. Lol
Do you ever wonder when he (he)
Don't come home, who he goes to see?
And why in the middle of the night (yeah, yeah)
He leaves you alone
When everything he likes is with me.

Lily Allen's Hard out Here (a response to Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke T. I. and Pharrell Williams) also aged badly in 2019 due to her marriage to David Harbour who is 10 years older than her women who marry older men are contributing to their own misogyny viewing themselves as disposable objects for the male gaze
reply

All of these songs weren't great to begin with but damn, Do What U Want is such a jam. Love the song but yeah it's pretty problematic that R. Kelly is the feature. Wish Gaga would think about reworking the song with a different singer as the feature so that she'd rerelease it for streaming.

Its has clearly been documented, that they say there wont be snow in Africa, because it was hard to put in the word Ethiopia smoothly into this song. And I think they only use the word Africa once in the song, so it shouldnt make this song as not aging well.
reply

Blurred Lines had horrible lyrics/ video/ message, but banging tune. 2 (or 3) things can be true at once. Imagine listening to this in a club without knowing the words or seeing the video.
This definitely falls under the guilty pleasure category.

Nasty girl is a satire song its about them! And all the shit DC got for their wardrobe. So I think it aged well cause its still a problem today with the way people view women and judge on their appearance and not their character
reply

Nasty girl is the truth and I still stand by those words. cater to you is a good song and sum dont mind catering to their man just as he caters 4 moi. ya'll need to get out ur sensitive bag ffs. And it aint a beyonce song.
reply

UR so gay is about a closeted gay man pretending to be straight and dating a girl, and in the process, hurting her. It's obvious to her that he's not straight but he just wouldn't admit it. I still listen to it. Good song.
reply

Me being an Elton John fan, I agree with number 1, but Id replace the lady Gaga/r Kelly one with another one that came out at the same time as do they know its Christmas, that being we are the world by USA for Africa
reply

You also could have listed Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones. It still gets air play, and is considered a classic, but it is racist at its roots.
There are so many others that you could do a top 100 list.

reply

Okay, excluding blurred lines and do what you want. Youve just oversimplified the meaning of the song, or taken a satirical song and spoken about it as if it was serious. Youre just slandering for clout.
reply

Bad Girl by Madonna. That song was in bad taste considering it was about an actual murder. She fictionalized it but everyone knew it was about Roseann Quinn who was brutally murdered in the 1970s.
reply

Nasty girl was written in response to criticism destinys child used to receive about the way they would dress and dance at the time. Basically they were singing from the perspective of their haters
reply

The idea that Do They Know It's Christmas is now a problem because they said And there won't be snow in Africa this christmastime is absurd. YOU try to squeeze the word Ethiopia into a song.
reply

6: 08 To add on, there were also additional allegations by one of the actresses that Robin Thicke assaulted her during the making of the video. As if he couldn't be more of a weirdo.
reply

SOME are dated because the world has become so woke. If only women WOULD put some clothes on. if only we were cultured not to only want IG fame. AND FEMINISM IS NOT THE ANSWER SERIOUSLY!
reply

I never minded the titte vdo for Blurred Lines. Ladies do what you do, but the lyrics were always grappy. Like guys walking into a strip club already thinking of grape.
reply

I clicked this video miss reading it I though I read Songs that aged well and then realised at 25y Ive never heard any of these but stinkin blurred line
reply

Around the time Alfie came out, Alfie and Lily apered on the radio, where they both established that the Alfie from the song was completely diferent from him.
reply

Without controversy Blurred lines sounds like old people music. They only play it at the club I woke at during fancy events not fancy just trash
reply

Aaliyah's song Age Ain't Nothing But A Number written by R. Kelly. She sang that when she was 14
I love Aaliyah tho and consider her iconic anyways

reply

Do They know it's Christmas is a great song that did collect a lot of money for the victims of famine in Ethiopia. Tone deaf? Woke has spoke.
reply

Damn, #10 is mind blowing. Imagine singing a song about your brother being unemployed but he eventually becomes more successful than you.
