Mark, you don't need the spoon when eating a meal such as this. The traditional way is to hold the bowl with the left hand, use the chopsticks to pick up the food to put in your mouth, and then bring the bowl to your mouth and use the chopsticks to push the rice porridge into your mouth. Also, the dishes that are eaten with Teochew porridge are meant to be eaten by a typical Chinese family on a daily basis, which means that they are known NOT to have strong flavour and taste. In fact, a Teochew porridge meal is known for its plain taste. It is still tasty but definitely not the kind of strong, flavourful food that you would expect in a restaurant.

I just love how you described and reviewed your meals in every your video. The way you choose the words and interpret the taste into something that we could imagine is really awesome. I am very anticipating your facial expressions after tasting the first spoon. In my perception if it is really delicious you would tilt your hear to the right side. But if it is delicious you would just nod. It is very enjoyable watching your videos that I almost could taste the food as well keep up the spirit, Mark and Ying

It seems to me that the first dish you had is not chicken. Two signs makes me say that it would be frog meat; one being the little curve thin bone found in frog legs n the second is use of dried chilli plus shredded Ginger in thick sauce commonly used to stir fried frog legs but not chicken meat. Mark did you ask before you ordered? The fish n the frog meat explains why 24.

The chicken is actually frog meat, I think. Usually ginger and dried chillies are added to cook this meat to mask its fishy smell and it tastes like soft chicken and smoother when you swallow. Chicken meat dishes usually comes in larger chunks. Reminds me of a story. the maid: Sir, what size of meat portion do you prefer big piece or small. Cut it the same size as my mouth.

Teow porridge, braising and boil cold dishes represents the Teow chew food in this case. The fish should be boil and keep it cold, so that the fishy smell enhance the fragrant of original taste. If its really steam then it is not teow chew dish. I think the porridge is the only teow chew food on the table. sorry just my 2 cent opinion. good video: )

Sitting here have not yet eaten breakfast and I see yet another episode where Mark is living the life as a food critic and tasting what seems to be delicious chicken garlic with sauce. Dreading the time it will take to cook my own meal. I suppose thats why there is phone in takeout. Love your videos Mark and Ying. keep them coming.

This is my favourite place to go to for teochew porridge. It's run by my friend's uncle I usually add the gravy from the braised duck that they serve into the porridge, makes it a little less plain. Oh and you should've gotten the braised duck, it's the bomb and probably is the best dish there to go with porridge
