Pup Yod and Ice for amazing food Read my blog post for details: I had a special opportunity to eat at Sorn, a newly opened fine dining Thai restaurant - the only of its kind in Bangkok specializing in only Southern Thai food. And since Southern Thai food is my personal favorite regional variations of Thai cuisine (my wife is from the South of Thailand, I was very very excited. Sorn ) Restaurant is set in a beautifully restored home, just on the back side of Phrom Phong. Its like a museum when you step inside, filled with history of Southern Thailand, the people, food, ingredients, and tools used. One of the greatest things about Sorn ) and owners and chefs is that they dont take any shortcuts. All the chili curry pastes, which form the base for many dishes, are pounded by hand, making sure everything has maximum flavor potential. Even the rice is cooked in a claypot, traditional style, thats very rare to find anymore. Additionally, 99. 9% of the ingredients are not just from Thailand, but sourced directly from Southern Thailand. Some of the ingredients are impossible to find in Bangkok, and only seasonally available in a tiny region of Southern Thailand. Chef Yod and Khun Ice have done extensive research and traveling around Thailand sourcing only the best ingredients, and it really shows. Here are some of the 22 dishes (there were a few other dishes as well that I didnt include to save time) we ate in this fine dining Southern Thai food experience: Cashew nut relish ) Sand mole crabs ) 2 C Lobster ( 7) Lobster claw and head curry ) Gems on crab stick ) Grilled southern beef ) Rice mix ) Grilled chili paste ) Yellow curry ) Fish innards curry ) Stink beans and squid ) Clear soup ) Grilled crispy pork ) Coconut rice, shrimp curry ) Torch ginger flower sorbet ) Mutant coconut, ice cream ) Fruits and ice ) It was an incredible meal, with some ingredients I had never seen or tried before. Whats unique and fascinating about Sorn ) Restaurant is that theyve taken Southern Thai food and adapted it into a fine dining environment by sourcing top ingredients, and keeping things traditional while occasionally using modern technique to increase flavor and quality. Its a high end, gourmet Thai meal experience, and it was a real treat Thank you again to: Pup Yod Ice

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto, Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.

Mark. bro. i wish you could have a sort of contest, or so; you could invite us; your followers, a price to meet you and the wife and Micah; and go taste some delicious food as you do; but you'll have to do it in the winner's city, state or providence; what do you think? or in Thailand. i'd personally like to eat some Tom Yum and some Pad Thai Thip. any who. you are the best and humble host of tv foods i've seen and continue to see. regardless//.

Wow Wow Mark sorn was the best thing I have seen Thai food so far, such good service and presentation, one dish after another small bites to taste it. Great mouth watering dishes to taste such a huge variety of food. One watching this is sure salivating and wish we had this in our plate. Must be a bomb the pricing of it as you did not mention it as the end. wondering you and Ying have a great time. Love your videos most of them.

I dont understand why Mark does not tell the audience the prices for these fancy restaurants but in any other videos the price is revealed. Is this because of shame for the decadence or a conscious decision to be ingenuous meaning even if the food was not good he has an obligation to fake it, putting all the years of building trust with his fans into question.

I'm a Southern Thai (well, I live abroad for over 10 years already) yet I've never heard of the first 6 dishes and the last 3 drinks and desserts. All the middle ones are the dishes I normally ate though. But do our Southern Thai Cuisine really have a chance to be haute cuisine with those pungent dishes?

Aloha from Honolulu, Mark. You video is so great that I wish to try it next week with my family Need reservation for 6 adults and 2 children for dinner on December 25th, if they are open. If not, December 24th is fine. Tried to call them but got a recording in Thai which I dont understand. Any suggestions?

I've spent about 4 hours watching your videos today I'm in love with all the rich content and the celebration of cultures I'm curious as to how much would this resturant experience cost? It's a beautiful restaurant with amazing food and service Keep making these awesome videos

Honestly that restaurant is more likely a place that an American or someone who is new to visiting Thailand would go to because it looks clean and the utensils are clean, and some of the people working there speak English. Thats definitely a place I would go to as a visitor

OMG Wish you have show more of the rice cooking. I once had a plate of white rice in a 3 star Hat Yai hotel 20 years back. The aroma of that rice is unforgettable. Never get to taste that rice again anywhere in Bangkok. I wish I will get to taste it again.
