CDT 2018. Idaho. Things do not go as planned once Dixie crosses the border into Idaho. Halibut: The good ole toenailis ingrownis (if that's what you had. I usually fuss with it, try to do my own diy surgery, and then when all that fails, and it's gotten too tight and painful to even attempt getting a toenail clipper under, I go to the podiatrist, same ole drill, anesthetize the big toe, cut off a straight-edge 1/4 of the toenail, and good to go. For those that think this is gross, it is. But the relief is instantaneous, and oh so comfortable again, and will last for at least six months, and maybe a couple years or more, before the next episode. I would get them from marathon training, not hiking The Great Divide!

My podiatrist taught me a cool trick, if u feel the beginning of an ingrown nail, if you wedge a small piece of cotton between the nail and skin, then put band aid on, it takes the pressure off and often the nail grows out. Also helps with the pain. I also generally carry a handful of broad spectrum antibiotics from. my dr in my kit on long haul hikes. It can really come in handy till you reach a town etc in the event of an issue/infection.

You are one of the toughest most awesome individuals ever! Maybe there's an explanation for people like you. I'm thinking about The Journey of Man, a Genetic Odyssey. After seeing your video I think the title should be The Journey of Man and Woman. This documentary is one of the best. It gives a glimpse of just how tough our ancestors were.

Dixie, I cannot believe how tough and motivated you are! I'm curious though: Do you use liner socks or have you ever considered them? I have some of the same foot issues you have including nails and manufacturers believing women don't need shoes bigger than a size 10! I've read that liner socks help.

Hi Dixie, hope your toes are on the mend! Would love some input on health insurance. I have seen a couple videos in which hikers seek treatment or ER services. Do most hikers pay for service out of pocket or are you on Obama care? Or are their other options? Thanks!

Just read your long Patreon note bringing us up to the minute. Sorry about the heavy snow making life especially challenging. Will check my maps for your location. Be careful. (Note that my Patreon name is somewhat different from the one here)

Funny you mentioned hiking without cell phone tech as I was just thinking how it would be without any contact whatsoever. just like in my youth you just go out and hike and tell someone where you are going and when you are due back.

Hey Southern Belle, so sorry to hear about your little piggy problems. Wish I new a backwoods remedy. But all I can do is wish you a speedy recovery, hope you're not in too much pain, and pray it doesn't slow down your journey.

Yeah, take care, but dont let that stop you. You, madam, deserve to be the triple crowner after all you've been through. I cheer you up until the end!
