Can Universal Basic Income REALLY Save Us? Free Money After Coronavirus Makes Millions Unemployed. JackWolfGaming: UBI is brilliant. No paper currency to be a transmission vector for viruses or counterfeiting. I singular digital chip with some sort of security protocol that is secure, similar to BitCoin, but stable and accounted for. Each citizen would be allotted a certain amount of CREDITS per month, period. You will then get MORE credits the more you work. In the age of machinery and computers, there is no reason that 70% of the work force even needs to be doing their jobs. This would free up time for cultural and scientific endeavors, as well as an increased speed in social evolution because people will have more time to interact with one another. Work more, get paid more. Work less, get paid less. but every American citizen has a right to a home and health care. Until you've BEEN homeless for reasons out of your control, you'll never understand. Until you've suffered from PTSD for 15 years with minimal treatment because you can't work to afford the treatments. you won't understand. For the less privileged among us, we need a base-line for every citizen in this country. A net to keep our people safe at ALL times, not just in times of crisis.

didn't watch the video. on this topic. you need to be aware that universal income will be something businesses / service providers leap to get a piece of. but in a very short amount of time many in each industry will also leap to program and legitimize the reduction of perceived legitimate standards in both quality and quantity of services initially offered. This problem exists largely as the product of poor leadership and a community driven in ignorant passion, fear, and desire. radicalized by harsh work circumstances and the product of not using their liberties to cause the dropping of rent rates to a level which will allow the common wages paid to do the job money is paid to do. if you do not have a community that can talk with honesty about these topics. and manage its provision of vital services. then you will not have a leadership that will genuinely do so either. for more reasons than are readily apparent but with plenty of reasons that are easy to see. be true to yourself. do not falsify the value of junk that seems like it can do an acceptable job of replacing the role of adult human beings. the covid scare / embezzlement as well as the last three embezzlement collapses are more than enough evidence that trusting the same examples to continue to lead in media and all other places. will produce more of the same. if you want to piss away your countrymen and neighbors. give some more power to the dishonest leadership we have like you've always done.

I'm 100% for UBI. It's an excellent idea that will eliminate the need for much bureaucracy in the welfare system. Simple solution to single parent's is that UBI starts at birth where half the UBI is given to the parent and the other half is automatically saved and offered to the child at 18 as payments for things like first home purchases and additional education. Or if they dont use it by 25 they can receive it as a lump sum. This would immediately elevate every single citizen with the potential to elevate themselves to middle class with no unnecessary barriers. Everyone can enter adulthood with a stable foundation to build their life on. The level of productivity and success this would generate will create obscene amounts of money. Even if tons of people decide to be lazy and live off as little as possible, the returns would greatly outweigh any losses. That's before going into the benefits of sideways mobility and healthier family units. Gonna really reach here. but I can make a strong case for why this would all but eliminate the ongoing epidemic of school shootings. Point it. I'm all for it.

wow, I knew Brazil wasn't giving much, but now I know they're giving basically nothing. People with lower income that apply for that hand are getting 600 reais each, and 1 dollar = 5, 11 reais today. That means each person is getting USD117, 49 and it's not like stuff costs any less here then what they cost in the US. We're all relieved people started getting their money this week, but people like me (my family of 5 made about R312. 000 last year before taxes (about USD61. 100, don't get anything. While I am aware we make A LOT more than most brazilian families, I have no money at all to pay my bills, so I have to lend some from my mom and sisters (and I'm 25, it's pretty humiliating) because my household is doing fine. But yeah, all is fine since our great president wants everything to open up before the end of April lol Douche

I'm from Argentina where we have a similar system to UBI and I wanted to give my opinion from my perspective. People who need UBI to get out of poverty often do not have the education necessary to know what to do with the money. More often than not they spend it on non essential goods. A very significant amount of the population is abusing this system and choosing to be unemployed and just live off the money the government gives them. The government of course uses this as an advantage, since if these voters choose another political party, they stop receiving their income. Meanwhile the rich are fleeing the country and taking their investments with them and the middle class is getting taxed into poverty

As someone who has been poor their entire 48years on this earth I can say solidly that I couldn't care about this until housing and rent/mortgage issues are dealt with. I am so sick of watching those prices go up. There should absolutely be more control over what can be charged for rent. It has always been rent that kept me awake at night and it just keeps going up when nothing has changed towards income. I have 10years of college education and I still have struggled as a single mom to pay my rent. Enough is enough. Time for the feds to do something about it because we all need a roof over our heads.

The moment we reach 90%+ automation the idea of UBI stands a chance, until that day, UBI is nothing but an euphemism for communism/authoritarian state. Inevitably it will lead to more dependency from the government in a sizable part of the population. It would ease the transition into only digital money which would be a cataclysm for individual freedoms. It would also facilitate the implementation of social score programs like the nightmarish shit they got going on in China. Overall this is just a disaster waiting to happen. Give it 25 more years and maybe we can talk about it realistically.

You don't need universal basic income. You need to fix your society. 1. Pay people a living wage, and get rid of mandatory tipping. it shouldn't be the patrons responsibility to allow the staff to live. 2/hr is basically slave labour. 2. Introduce a tax free income threshold. Something like the first 15k earned is tax free (this is done in lots of countries. 3. Make it mandatory for employers to provide at least 2 weeks sick leave a year to employees. 4. Fix your broken, backwards ass health care system. No one should have to choose between losing their arm or losing their house.

Since UBI is tax funded, you're paying the government to pay you. The government is just gathering all the money and handing it out equally. As fun as that sounds, what if we erased welfare, and then erased the bottom tax bracket? As in, you don't pay any income taxes until you reach a certain point. That way, the poor get to keep all of their own money and spend it how they see fit, and everyone else doesn't have to front the massive administrative costs of welfare. No, it's not perfect, but neither is any other solution. The only way to know if something will work is to try it.
