Guess Who Just Gave Away ALL Their Money! Hate For Profit, Kim Kardashian, Boeing Max 8, & More News Squiggleywiff: My boyfriend is an aerospace engineer, he has to work with both Boeing and the FFA on a daily basis. I'm not surprised in the slightest by this news, the FFA is supposed to regulate safety but they're often the same people that are employed or were very recently employed by Boeing. Boeing regulate themselves basically and wow shocking they were cutting corners and being grossly negligent.

I've worked at a plant that processes and packages fruit and met with a lot of county and state food inspectors. Obviously this is different from Boeing and the FAA, but I think the same principle applies. Government inspectors, in general, don't seem to care and companies, in general, hide as much as they can from inspectors. Some inspectors did their job well, they came in, they saw something was off, they told management, management would pretend to yell at me for messing up (despite following exactly what I was told to do beforehand, I'd fix the problem and then the inspector would continue. but most inspectors just sat down in their desk, filling out paperwork and then left. Companies are going to endanger people to increase profits and no amount of rules and regulations will change that if the people whose job it is to enforce those rules and regulations just don't bother.

One of the biggest reasons I quit working in STEM is because of how everything is just about making or saving money. Growing up, I saw stem as a great profession because I naively thought it was all about results, improvement and meticulous care from all the nerd media/propaganda I consumed. That it was somehow less affected by empty social posturing and all about collaborating to make something great. I guess I lost sight that it is a business too, after all. I enter the workforce and there is more of a if we can get away with it, then it's okay. If it breaks, oops we'll solve it later mentality. Now I can completely understand how things like the boeing thing happens.

Even if it would be preferable if we had a world economy that could supports it's people such that everybody would be able to live meaningful and good lives, the efforts of a man like Chuck Feeney is not to be undervalued. When 50% of Wall Street is owned by 1% and 84% is owned by 10%, it shows how much inequality there is. We should all be willing to sacrifice some convenience to make the world better for everybody - especially those who suffers. If our world and it's people are to survive we must change not only our own views on consumption and aid, but also be willing to punish the companies that values money higher than democracy and freedom.

I mean. Since chuck feeney has only kept 2 mil for him and his wife, he'd be a millionaire not a billionaire, so would be an example of a good millionaire over a billionaire. The whole point of no good billionaire statements is that anyone who stays a billionaire long time, hoards wealth to an excessive degree, as people in their country suffer and die due to extreme poverty, cannot be a good person, and it seems like Feeney kinda proves that. He is leaving billionaire-hood to be able to do good for others, so no good billionaires still stands.

I think billionaires giving away their money is great, but where is it going? I'm not in love with the idea of money flooding into nationalist or white supremacist groups masquerading as non profits. If only we had this magical mechanism where a decent portion of money was taken from people and used by government bodies to pay for healthcare, corrections and infrastructure. Imagine how much a billionaire could contribute if there was a realistic amount taken from them. hmm

I m all for giving money to charity but how will it be used. All the executives world get paid.
Do not donate but go their and make a difference. Visit the local communities and help by paying directly from your account. Review their budget and see how they are spending the money.
I would rather my kids waste my money then some rich executives who runs these charity organisations- not to mention the government taking it as tax.
But how am I ahh

Chuck has given me hope. The media and social media are always there to show you how bad the uber rich are and how they're always crappy people. The internet makes everything black and white, and seeing that Chuck has given away all of his money, Mackenzie Scott (might not have spelled that correctly) is giving away most of her billions, and the giving pledge. All of this makes me happy that people with so much are willing to give away.
reply

Giving away to charity is nice, but I am in general opposed to the concept of a charity. It just means that state is doing its job properly and we should work on better social welfare and higher taxes, then you dont need charity (which is based on emotion and does not distribute based on need, but based on what raises the most money and also needs a marketing budget, making it even less efficient at addressing social ills.

Companies = profit over people. It is everywhere from smaller chocolate bars at a higher price to cutting jobs and putting the extra work on the shoulders of the remaining employees then telling them to do it quicker. Consumers suffer in their wallets their mental health, and in the Boeing case, with their lives! Apologies do nothing. Reduce profit goals and share holders. People Before Profit.
