As part of the live show, Georgie from Jamie's Food Team cooks a gorgeous Cypriot Style Chicken. randomjasmic: I am only going by my own experience which is in no way exhaustive. I have eaten in Cypriot restaurants in Larnaca away from the main tourist areas and in houses of Cypriot Greeks, I have eaten in restaurants in Amman (quite touristy but not too much) and I have eaten in shacks and family run restaurants in the Troodhos on both sides of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot border. All of the food had its own style, but I also spotted similarities as well. I really miss sheftalia for instance.

Look. I agree that jordanian and turkish food have similarities. But the base in Cypriot cuisine is Greek. Greek products, greek flavors and the world famous cypriotic haloumi etc etc. In the modern times, turkish part of cyprus added middle east meals to theri hotels and reastaurants and slowly, big chefs in hotels and restaurants adopted this way of cooking. but NO WAY cypriot cuisine is the same with this of the middle east.

well from the first comment you posted it seems that the only differences is the tzatziki which is greek, and the way the pita is cooked, and that there are no skewers from the chicken. So to conclude, the only difference is that the meat is not in the pita with skewers, that she did not made them on charcoals and that she put tzatziki. sounds to me like an interpretation

Sorry, but it's not even close to the real Cypriot Souvlaki! Especially with the tzatziki, which is greek! Souvlaki is cooked on charcoals. Pitta bread is also heated on charcoal, opened on one side and the meat goes in the pitta without the skewers. In Cyprus we do not put any tzatziki in the pitta. Just lemon, salt and the vegetables. Good attempt though!

This is so easy and incredibly tasty - its officially in my top 10 recipes. The incredibly vibrant flavas - if you wanted to get the essence of Greek food. This is it.

Yes but when the only thing that remains the same from the original recipe is the chicken, it stops being an interpretation. It's a whole new recipe!
