I am currently staying in the hospital in San Antonio, Texas. I am making the best of a family emergency. I am helping my sister recover in the hospital, and the food is subpar at best. Thankfully, my son packed me ramen noodles, chop sticks, and Korean stick coffee. Let me show you a simple food hack I use in the hospital that saved the day. This is a quick, tasty meal I put together with one ingredient from the hospital that is free.

Best wishes for rapid recovery for your sister. Leave it to you to play with food with minimal tools and ingredients in the hospital LOL
Traditional American breakfast don't hold up well in hospital settings, at all, ever. But trying to get people to go along with changes that would make it possible for it to be still a good meal is really difficult. Forget things like eggs done any other way than a casserole or omelets.
American toaster toast forget it - just does not hold up in transport. Heck I don't think it holds up at home. Add to the poor foods that make up American breakfasts and nursing in most hospitals having to pass the trays and you've got a perfect recipe for not such good breakfasts. I worked for the VA and every hospital I ever worked in I had to fight the battle of getting it so that the food service workers passed the trays, not the nurses. Only was successful in one but once they tried it, they loved it because it freed them up to do nursing. If they needed to hold a tray unexpectedly, they just let the food service worker know. But change comes hard.

Hope your Sister is OK. I had a Ruptured Appendix in 2020, had Emergency Surgery. The next day, I was on a Liquid Diet, consisted of bowl of Broth, Glass of unsweetened Tea, Cup Coffee, Milk and one serving of Jello. The next day I was put on a solid Diet. The Solid Diet made me wish for my Liquid Diet. The food was mostly not edible. I have never heard of Korean Coffee.

When I was in the hospital one of my nurses brought me a some puzzle and word books and a wonderful adult coloring book with some colored pencils. Ask a nurse if they supply anything like that to help pass time. I'm sending prayers for your sister to have a speedy recovery. If you're there too long you'll be asking to bring in your crockpot! lol

I wish a speedy recovery for your sister. FYI- I don’t think you’re supposed to eat the patient’s food. The nurses check and document how much the patient eats. At least they do at the hospital’s where I have been a patient. I had 2 major surgeries and several follow up stays for cancer, Transplant, and other medical issues.

i guess visitors to hospitals are different in every state, in kentucky, you cant have visitors stay with you to help you out, like you got 10 minutes to visit your loved one, then they just boot you out of there, when youre discharged, thats when they let your loved one come get you.

Your son is pretty awesome, isn't he!
I have always found it odd how the hospitals give you the most unhealthy food that you can get. I was cringing at the foods you were showing.
Prayers and positive thoughts for your sister. I know you will stay strong for her.

I took cup of noodles with me to the hospital while my husband had quadruple bypass and was in the hospital for a week and we were in a different town from our home.
Saved me money from having to buy food plus I don't like hospital food either.

I'm confused. If you're there helping your sister. Why is it all about you. You didn't tell anyone what your sister has. You didn't fix her food to help her eat. It's nice that you came to spend time with her. The poor dear is in the hospital.

My thoughts and prayers that your sister feels better soon! Your son is awesome thinking of sending you with food and coffee! Hospital food and coffee is not the greatest as I learned from my stays fighting colon cancer.

At the hospital when I had my son, I really enjoyed the best turkey and dressing meal ever. I looked at my itemized list of that meal it turned out that the turkey was actually pork tenderloin.

My mom is currently in the hospital as well and I will never understand why the food there, of all places, is in no way healthy. Hope your sister is feeling better.
