When I drive through Halifax, Virginia; that stuff is everywhere. It grows under shade of trees. I tried it under my maple tree once. It lasted for about 2 seasons. The soil may have been too acidity. I changed over to sedum reflexum. That stuff is doing great! What I remember of phlox, it likes to be on a mild hillside. We had some in our backyard at one time. I think it got mowed down by a contractor I hired when I was working out of town a lot.

We just got home from Charleston and while we were there we did the garden tour at Magnolia Plantation, it was absolutely spectacular and several times I thought of you and how much you would absolutely love it there! If you get a chance, please go. You will be absolutely blown away, the house and gardens were started in the 1600s.

Love the little walk around that spot in your garden, hearing about all the plants and seeing their progress. I just picked up a peony and can't decide whether to go ahead and plant or wait until fall. It's already hot here in North Texas. If you planted Benjamin's garden with nothing but strawberries, he'd be in heaven. Lisa

You have beautiful gardens. Can you tell me what was the name of the evergreen bush (yellow-green) that you showed towards the beginning of this video? Also, will Phlox do well on a slope? Currently we have Ground Elder in that area and I would like more color than just the green. Thanks for you assistance in advance.

Lovely colors! A hypothesis about oak virus: Does it result from feeding copious synthetic nitrogen fertilizer that stunts and inhibits the mycorrhizal fungi that mature trees need? Ah, humans and our quick chemical ways, alas we may be too impatient for the mighty oaks under our stewardship.

I planted 2 phlox 15 years ago in my front yard under a maple sapling. It has grown together and crawled over a globe dwarf cypress, and over the gardens edge, probable 5 wide and 8 deep. And its so glorious when it blooms. I dont have the heart to cut it back!

Hey Laura, what do you guys use for mulch? I remember in another video you mentioned soil conditioner? I've been using natural cedar much and was wondering if there was a specific or different kind you should use for flowers or trees?
