The Most Underrated Dumbbell Glute Exercise Redefining Strength

The Most Underrated Dumbbell Glute Exercise I-ve never been a fan of the whole squat for a better butt thing. I think squats are honestly overrated as a glute move, but that-s a video for another day. And while I do think you need a diversity of movements to really get the best results for any muscle group, I wanted to share one of my favorite dumbbell glute exercises that I think is often forgotten about and overlooked. It-s the Dumbbell Skier Swing. The kettlebell swing is an amazing hip hinge exercise to work on that explosive glute power or even your strength endurance based on how you implement it. It-s not only a great move to improve your conditioning but also your strength. But if we don-t have a kettlebell, we often then don-t think about utilizing this amazing move. That-s why I wanted to share a great way to use dumbbells to perform a swing and include this great move in your routine!

When my lower back hurts in general I foam roll my glutes which then eases it showing I have tightness or overworked muscle
When my lower back hurts with swings I know I-m not holding myself correctly therefore my core is weak. I rectify it & start again
This is amazing exercise BUT make sure the weight isn-t too heavy!

Would it be of any benefit to load each arm with different weights? Just wondering because I own one single heavy dumbbell and a pair of lighter ones. Or is it just easier to use the heavier one like you showed in the video? By itself. Thank you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been looking for alternatives to squats since I've been dealing with quadriceps tendonitis (I'm also working on strengthening my glute medius and stretching and strengthening my quads.

Love all your videos and how you break down the movements to prevent injury. However, I've never seen a video on how to decelerate a kettle bell swing which always seems abrupt and awkward to me. Maybe you can add that in?

Nailed it with those cues! For something that looks so easy there really is a progression and a lot to think about mechanically for both injury prevention and actually getting the most benefit/work out of the muscle groups.

Looks like a great exercise. I have been studying breath work for a few months, and notice your mouth open. Just wondering if controlled breathing thru the nose may be better.

I have a Question. Does the skier swing get more quads than the kettel bell swing. I was always under the impression that the skier swing targets more of the anterior

I'm curious what your thoughts are on either (or both) of Walking Dumbbell Lunge or Farmer's Carry? For me personally, the walking variant really hits my glutes.

Thanks so much for this video, Cory! Very timely for me, because I've recently resumed at-home weight workouts, and have a kettlebell, but it's not very heavy (
