My advice for checking gas at the gas station. 1. Get a clean glass jar that is free from dirt and water. it should be dry2. Go to the gas station you usually do. put some in that jar. 3. Put the jar sealed on a shelf so anything in the gas can settle. After 3-4 days you will see some water and sediment on the bottom. This is what is going into your tank. I do this with a glass one quart container. How do I know all of this. I do this working at an airport for jet fuel. been doing the fuel testing for 16 years 4 months. We have a fuel test kit and I have taken samples from local gas stations in Reno Nevada. you would be surprised how many gas stations have water and dirt in their tanks. If it rains a lot or if there is a lot of heat and humidity (North Carolina, Florida for example. then the underground fuel tanks will sweat on the inside and have water at the bottom. when the gas tanker comes and replenishes the underground tank, it stirs everything up. When you fill up you get the water and sediment. Working at an airport, we test for water, sediment and FSII (anti-icing agent) in JP-8 jet fuel. Just today I failed a 1 million gallon fuel tank because there was too much water and sediment. So they had to recirculate the fuel through the filter separator. So I can test gasoline and find out the cleanest fuel. From driving through 48 US States. I have to say. there is one gas station that had been the cleanest around the country. ChevronHere locally in Reno/Sparks/Carson City area: 1. Chevron2. Maverick3. ShellSo. what Scotty said about gas in one of his previous video is kind of not true. All gas stations are not all the same.

A car that run bad cold and good hot can be something VERY simple. I had a 1986 Dodge Charger same as the Plymouth Turismo. It was opposite, ran great cold and BAD hot. The problem was the EGR. Nothing wrong with the EGR it was a thermo vacuum valve. Closed when cold, open when hot. It didn't open which means the engine was running rich when hot. This could be the opposite. It's open all the time meaning the engine is running lean when cold. That causes problems. I have another version of it with my 2002 Ford Ranger. It takes FOREVER to warm up. Cause? Stuck open thermostat. These types of problems are cheap to solve but tracking them down is hard. To see if this is the problem disconnect the vacuum line to the EGR and run it from cold. If it runs good you found the problem. Back thru the vacuum line and find the valve. Replace it. It's not expensive. One of the best bits of advice I ever got from a mechanic concerning computerised cars is. If it's running bad and there's no codes always remember that no matter what computerized this and that there is, it's STILL the same engine they've been putting in cars since the model T and before. Most engine problems have nothing to do with the computer. If it's running bad it's because the computer is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The fault is with the way the engine is SUPPOSED to run and the computer is reacting to it's programming. If your engine is running good, bad, good, bad, good, bad, It's something NOT controlled by the computer. It's trying to play catch up with the problem.

Scotty my wife has a 2006 Explorer 4. 6 V-8 automatic 6 speed with 200, 000 km (so about 124, 000 miles for you yanks. It has started stuttering occasionally when in 6th gear at certain driving conditions only like travelling at 80-90 km/h (about 50 mph) and slightly uphill. If it decides to shift down say if you step on the gas the stuttering stops. Is it the transmission? If so, what's going on with the transmission and is it worth fixing? I would have thought the lower gears would have had problems before the overdrive gears. When the stuttering occurs the tachometer is dead stable and it only happens in this certain condition so I am not sure it is the engine.

I have a rebuilt title car for sale that Ive driven for 5 years since the crash. They hit my right side, did some frame damage, the passenger door has to be slammed a little (barely) I had to unbend one plastic trim piece thats under the doors. I took a hammer to the place where I got t boned and banged the metal back into place. It really works just fine, like I said, driven it for the last five years. I get that rebuilds can be scary and you dont know whos doing what and what kind of trouble you can buy. But I have an example of a rebuild that isnt scary. Love your videos. Keep on keepin on.

Scotty I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla with 186, 000km around 110, 000miles. I noticed the car was idling a little high and the start and shut off was rough and shaky. I changed the spark plugs and the timing belt now everything is good and smooth except for the shut off. Car shakes and vibrates ever so slightly when you turn it off. I'm concerned because its more shaky than a cold start in -30CWhat could cause that? I think I am missing a maintenance part but I don't know what it is.

In an Ultramar station in Prescott, Ontario, the supplier mistakenly filled the underground gasoline tanks with diesel, so everyone who filled up their tank with unleaded got diesel instead. Mistakes happen, eh? In true Canadian politeness, they readily paid for parts and labour for every car that got damaged by this incident. If this had happened in the USA, you'd have to sue the gas station and pay an attorney.

Hey Scotty hate to bother ya but I seriously need to know what tf is up with my car? I got a 2004 Ford Taurus, I got it for 900 5 months ago paid 150 to have it inspected top to bottom. No problems what so ever, now all of a sudden it just doesn't run I changed the fuel pressure sensor twice and replaced the sensors atop the fuel tank. And still nothing. I even had the battery and alternator tested. Any ideas?

they totaled my 02 f150 when a old tacoma rear ended me it only bent the frame/bed 10-15 degrees just passed the rear leaf spring mounts drove fine got 6300 only paid 5G so I payed a guy I knew to re-straighten it and we welded steel plates on each side of the frame to restore some of the rigidity the bed and tailgate wont ever look as good again but I use it for work so it was bound to get some damage

In the 1980's I saw a guy who did EXACTLY that. Weld two cars together. One with a smashed front the other with a smashed rear. He cut both in half and welded the two good half's together. HOLY CRAP I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it and I DID. Any mechanic with half a brain can see it in an instant. Put it on a lift and you'll see the reinforcing beams he welds on the bottom between the two halves.
